I hate to say this but...
we need to man up and make these suspensions to include the Florida State game. This is the ONLY way that we can come away feeling that our program is about doing things the right way and not about winning and losing.
I'm a Sooner Born and a Sooner Bred, and when I die I'll be a Sooner Dead!!!
Well Stoops atleast suspends the players
Mack just let’s them roll. How about Auburn? The NCAA suggested they sit Newton in the Bama game but they just let him play the rest of the season.
Hi, my name is Josey Wales and I'm a douche. Prove me wrong.
Ok whatever you say.
Mack would not have booted Bomar like Stoops did. Mack is soft, always has been always will be. He doesn’t trust his second string.
Hi, my name is Josey Wales and I'm a douche. Prove me wrong.
He booted Ramonce Taylor who was dealing drugs
He booted 2 kids that robbed a student on campus.
If it makes you feel better about gooner players getting into law trouble by making up stories about Texas and how lenient they are, go ahead.
Drugs and robbery. Mack couldn't cover that up.
Go back to BON. Mack is weak.
Hi, my name is Josey Wales and I'm a douche. Prove me wrong.
I believe the word you're looking for is wouldn't. Big difference.

Hobbes doesn't get it.
Stoops didn’t try to cover it up.
Hi, my name is Josey Wales and I'm a douche. Prove me wrong.
I see yall's point
Are you saying that if the roles were reversed (Bomar crashes into building; Kindle “works” at a car dealership) Brown would be looking for some way to cover it up and keep Kindle on the team while Stoops would have booted Bomar off the team?
They are just two different situations.
I feel very confident in saying
That if the roles were reversed Mack would not have had the stones to do what Bob did. ESPECIALLY if Kindle was his starting QB, but even keeping Kindle at his actual position I just really do not believe Mack would have booted him like Stoops did.

Fair enough
Everyone is entitled to their opinions.
We’ll just agree to disagree on this one (as usual)
Wow... Ramonce "I gotta backpack full of weed"
Got kicked off. Wow, I seem to remember whorns not caring saying he’d flunked out anyway. Wow, big move kicking him off, especially since he was gonna do jail time. Talk about a No brainer

Funny he didnt boot Cedric "I was just getting my tv" benson
Off the team for breaking & entering & robbery. Or the dude who had a loaded handgun when he was arrested with some other players who got a DUI… Was that Sergio again or someother defensive player… Hum

Brandon Collins
and he was immediately kicked off the team before any details of the investigation were released.
No not him

Ok, so after like 2 minutes online....
Tarel Brown, Tyrell Gatewood & Aaron Harris (former player) arrested weekend before Ohio St game…nice. Thats how you put your team first. Possession & hand guns…

UT player don't get DUIs
They get obstruction of justice after swerving on the highway and throwing up in the back of a squad car.

Obstruction of a passageway, even better
I’m fairly certain they had to write into the TX lawbooks “Obstruction a moving building” or whatever they made up to get Sergio Kindle off.

I think he was drinking as well
Yet, when you look at the facts, there is nothing to charge him with. Are the police supposed to say that they think he was drinking the night before? When there was no police report?
Hope it makes you feel better about your gooner players to bring up Sergio Kindle.
Nope they are supposed to do what they did
Which is nothing, which is the exact opposite of what they should have done, and which is in no way surprising. By doing nothing and not getting the kid help for the problem he very clearly had, they allowed him to go on and eventually “fall down the stairs” jeopardizing his entire playing career. You’re right, that is a much better way to handle things.

There's nothing the police could do
Who knows what punishment he received behind closed doors. Why should Mack make it public?
It’s humorous that whenever Texas players have legal trouble, you guys salivate over here and blast the Texas program.
And when OU players get into trouble? Just blast the Texas program.
Makes me laugh!
They don't need to make it public and that's not what I was saying
What they needed to do was get the kid help for what has proven to be (or at a minimum perceived to be) a pretty serious alcohol problem. But that would have meant him missing games and we all know that comes before anything else down there in them parts. It obviously came before teaching VY how to read (see Wonderlic score).

This is related how?
Anyways, we’ll see how different the OU offense looks without Kevin Wilson. I couldn’t believe you guys wanted to get rid of him.
Lord knows the Texas offense is going to look different. I’ll be curious to see if OU’s offense looks as good as it has in recent years, or suffers a decline
Do you not know who Josh Heupel is?!?
We’ll be just fine, thanks.
As for texas, what makes you think it will look different? Yeah they brought in Harsin, but Mack still wants a downhill running game and that’s not what he does. Plus you still have arguably the worst QB in the Big 12 running your O, so again what exactly is going to be different? I just love how most texas fans are sold that Malcolm Brown is going to completely turn your offense around. Good luck with that.

Worst QB?
You have to be kidding. And if you don’t think the offense will look completely different with a new QB coach, new WR coach, new OL coach…then you got a hold of some good stuff
We’ll see how Heupel does.
Who was worse than Gilly last year?
Remember he did lead the entire country in INTs.

I'll be the first to tell you he stunk it up last year
But I believe some of it was the product of a terrible system, shitty O-line, and lack of running game.
Do you really think he is the worst QB in the big 12? He may have had one of the worst statistical seasons last year, but I doubt you really believe he is the worst talent wise QB in the big 12. Just my opinion, of course.
Hobbes...watch the language please.
I, for one, think that Gilly was the worst QB in the conference for this reason: Texas has never had trouble recruiting talent and often gets some of the top talent in the country. Gilly was surrounded by players far more talented than the likes of Kansas, Colorado, Baylor, etc. yet was still unable to produce. I just don’t see an excuse for being surrounded with the talent Texas has and not being able to produce numbers and points.
I appreciate your opinion
sry for the language, I forget sometimes on here.
Surely you can agree that Rivals, Scout, and ESPN are just guessing which players in highschool, across the county, playing against different levels of competition, in differing talent pools (states), are going to be the best.
On top of that, our O-line was terrible! It doesn’t matter if we had Tom Brady/Aaron Rodgers, when you can’t get protection, you have no chance to succeed. Bad scheme, and terrible coaching. Was Gilbert good last year? No. Believe me, I’m not arguing that.
If you are arguing he had the worst statistical season of a QB in the big 12, I could agree with that.
He almost brought us back in the National Championship with a good receiver, and an okay offensive line.
Is it all his fault? No blame can be placed on the coaches? Or his teammates?
I do understand where you are coming from.
Gilly coming out of high school was a top recruit, I will give him that. But Gilly just like Landry had some growing up to do which included poor decision making when the pocket collapsed. I would also put a ton of responsibility on the coaches. Gilbert has the capability to tuck the ball and showed that in HS but never really in college yet. McCoy was allowed to tuck and run and I think the coaching staff didn’t let/want Gilbert to but that is one of the main reasons UT beat NU, letting Gilbert run draws etc. I will say talent wise I do expect more from Gilly but the coaches have to trust him first.
If it was up to you
Would you rather have Collin Klein from KSU as your starter, Kale Pick/Jordan Webb from KU, Jerome Tiller from ISU, Jimmy Costello from MU, Seth Doege/Scotty Young from Tech, or Gilbert?
I can 100% understand anyone who says they would rather have L. Jones, R. Griffin, B. Weeden, or R. Tannehill than Gilbert.
Texas has the worst season of the past 13 years and it was all Gilberts fault?
I think he was comparing Gilly last year....
so it would be the Arnaud dude, Gabbert & Potts from Tech to compare Gilly to. Yes he may be better than all of those QBs, but in 2010 he was clearly below those 3 in addition to Martinez, Landry, Tannehill, Griffin & Weeden. Basically he MIGHT have been better than the KU qb & the CU qb, both with much much less talent around them.
He was a turnover machine
A machine that I thought took over Jacory Harris and Miami but apparently Gilly caught the bug instead
it would be realted because you think :
“and just when the OU players get in trouble. Blast the texas program. It just makes me laugh”….
thats what makes you laugh, your coaching staff woes makes me laugh. 1+1=2. Even the aggies get it.
Yet you arecomparing gilly's year last year to next years QBs f
From other teams, because you are so sensible! So let me get this straight you can say what makes you laugh about OU fans. However, I cannot say what makes me laugh about UT, because it doesnt make sense or it’s not related…. Hum, maybe you should just go back to BON

Post whatever you want
Whenever someone presents a point to you that you cannot refute or come up with something on the spot, you just bring up something totally unrelated.
It’s your easy way out of saying “I have no good answer to what you said, so I’m just going to post something totally irrelevant”
No sir just pointing out the opinions of OU fans on an OU site
Feel free to go back to BON now. Every team has it’s share of knuckleheads. Fact is under Brown Texass players have had more brushes with the law than Stoops players have. Call it tighter ship, higher expectations or smarter kids. I would even chalk it up to Norman being less “party friendly” than Austin. But heck you get players arrested in College Station…..

Nor do they get DUIs
When they crash into large stationary objects (aka apartment buildings) at 3 am & then leave the scene before cops come.

yep, It seems as it is not a matter of if but when it will happen next.

Suspend them...
but give them a chance to redeem themselves. If it happens again, boot them off the team. We’re not the Longhorns after all.
Yep, see Bomar
Mack would never have booted Bomar.

Is this worse
Than what Mossis Madu did last season? He only served a one game suspension.

purely stupid on these players fault
you can warn them teach them and make demands of them, but they will do as they want and when they want. It’s been going on for as long as football has.
agreed
and you’re talking about 2 out of 85 scholarship players, and then there’s the 10-20 non-scholarship players. It’s going to happen. I just hope we all remember this whenever the same thing happens at other institutions and other players….D.J. Monroe, perhaps?
I hope these young men realize what they have.
All the success they and the other FR that contributed this last year had is now in jeopardy. Whether they learn from the consequences and use this to motivate them to be the kind of leaders they should be is up to them. They will no doubt get a second chance, but talent doesn’t grant them immunity. There is tons of talent at OU just like other major universities, but opportunities like they have come few and far between. Lets hope they get their priorities right, focus on their future and even be mentors to the incoming FR from this experience.
Dammit, guys!
Stupid rookie mistakes…well DUI is more than a “mistake.” Hopefully they learn from this and straighten up.
People crack me up on here!
No one really remembers Broyles little incident in 2007 that pretty much cost him is first year at OU. Now Broyles has become a go to player on and off the field. Stills and Jefferson are freshman and they are acting like freshman being away from home for the first time for an extended period of time. But the best thing about these freshman is that they will become sophomores and lose the freshman mistakes.
True.... Madu & Paul Thompson come to mind.
Gundy got busted for something when we were freshman … Either MIP or fake ID something…
by OU JJ on Jan 24, 2011 12:25 PM CST via mobile up reply actions
What I think it ultimately comes down to is Freshman testing their limits.
They want to get as close to the edge as possible and when they have found the edge, the back down from it a bit. Of course you will have those who push and push and push until they are firmly over then line such as Bomar. But, from what I have heard and seen is that Stills and Jefferson are good kids they just happen to be the ones who got caught doing what ever other kid their age is doing.
