OU Football - Week 4 injury update
I think we're all pretty familiar with Bob's lack of interest in disclosing anything regarding injuries, so fair warning this "update" should be taken with a considerably sized grain of salt. So with that super exciting lead in, here's the latest!
The bullets start flying after the jump.
Quickly before we get to injuries and mainly because it's just a perfect example of classic Stoops, Bob said on Monday that Jaz Reynolds would be available against Cincinnati after being suspended for the Air Force game. Um, do you remember hearing anything about that last week because I sure don't. Not a big deal obviously as Reynolds has yet to see the field this year and appears to have taken up permanent residence in the coach's doghouse. Just more Bob being Bob.- Considering all the cut blocking Air Force did last Saturday, it's pretty amazing that the d-line came out of that game unscathed. So the only injury issues here are ones that we're already aware of. Frank Alexander is still recovering from an ankle injury and Adrian Taylor is still working his way back from his horrific leg injury. Both saw limited action against Air Force, but are expected to see more time this week against Cincinnati.
- Bob is going into the week with "Big" Jimmy Stevens at kicker. I've just decided to give Jimmy one of those funny because it's ironic nicknames so let's just roll with it. Patrick O'Hara did not practice on Monday and will likely not be ready by Saturday.
- We use our TEs so infrequently, most of you (like myself) probably didn't realize that James Hanna suffered a minor injury after an early catch against AFA. Apparently it was a hip pointer and he was limited in practice on Monday and is considered "day-to-day" (cue cheesy Sportscenter anchor quote "Aren't we all" here).
- Austin Box is still rehabbing a back injury and while he is making good progress, he will once again be unavailable this Saturday.
- As mentioned here in our AFA game thread, Roy Finch was seen in pregame warm-ups out of his cast and doing a little light running. So he appears to be ahead of schedule, but obviously will not be back. If he doesn't play against Texas, and there is no reason to assume at this point that he will, I really hope Bob chooses to redshirt him. We've already seen how little they have played their back-up RBs (hello Jermie Calhoun and even Brennan Clay as well), so why waste a year of eligibility with Finch and him getting a small handful of plays? Wait, look at what they're doing with Ronnell Lewis you say? Okay, okay, we can't make every post here about The Hammer so moving on.
- The aforementioned Brennan Clay will also not be playing against Cincinnati this Saturday according to Stoops. Clay you'll remember suffered an ugly helmet-to-helmet hit late in the FSU game and had to be taken off on a stretcher (purely for precautionary reasons). Obviously Bob and the coaches are being extra careful in bringing him back, so they've decided to hold him out an extra week. Which will likely turn into three extra weeks because I'd doubt seriously he gets in against Texas and then OU has a bye week, so the next time we see Clay probably won't be until we match up with CC's Big 12 North runner ups Iowa State.
