OU Football - mini scrimmage report
The Oklahoma football team held their final scrimmage Thursday morning and while there wasn't a ton of news to report, there were a couple items that I thought everyone might be interested in. The Sooners will have their final "preseason" practice on Friday and then resume official game planning practices for the start of the season. So I'll run these down real quick and we can continue the discussion on these and anything else football related in the comments.
- The WRs have continued to improve and Coach Stoops singled out freshman Kenny Stills and Joe Powell as players that have performed well. WR Coach Norvell also singled out Cameron Kenney as a player that has done well this summer.
- WR Kenny Stills is still suffering from a groin injury and has been limited in practice.
- True freshman and buzz of summer practices RB Roy Finch reportedly suffered an ankle sprain during the scrimmage. No word on the severity or if it was a "high" ankle sprain.
- There is some talk of using both Roy Finch and fellow true frosh Brennan Clay in the slot.
- Justin Chaisson still has not rejoined the team and there is no information regarding when/if he will at this point. UPDATE: Stoops announced Friday after practice that Chaisson has withdrawn from school. Looks like he's officially gone, if I had to guess I'd say Texas fan is probably the most upset.
- Look out for true freshman (notice a theme here yet with the youngsters) Trey Millard. Stoops mentions him quite often and he appears to be in the mold of a Brody Eldridge and we all know how much Bob loved Brody. My guess is Millard wins the FB job and will be used in that type of H-back/FB role.
