Stoops: Murray In For A Big Season
Senior running back DeMarco Murray has received plenty of preseason pub. Murray was voted a preseason All-American by Phil Steele Magazine.
In his first season as the team's primary ball-carrier, Murray has set a goal for himself to rush for 1,500 yards, which would be a career high.
"I don't think that's enough," Stoops said. "I'd sure like to see him at 1,900. Not like we haven't done it. Adrian (Peterson) and Quinton Griffin both were over 1,900. We'll see. Hopefully he can do something like that."

Stoops has been an incredible coach
He’s delivered OU’s 3 most prolific passers, 2 great running backs, a plethora of LB’s (with more to come), and a huge amount of other greats. 1900 is setting the bar quite high, even for Murray, but Stoops’ confidence excites me very much.

Murray
He isn’t even the best RB in the Big 12, much less the country. And the OL is still unproven.
Thanks for your input Debbie

If Murray gets 1900
Then I don’t see any possible way we’re not undefeated.

I was thinking the same thing
…but why 1900 yards? Tack on another 100…and go for sexy…go for 2000 yards rushing!
I'd certainly have no issue w/ that
Doubt DeMarco would either!

Sounds good to me
Murray getting 1900? Sounds good, but our OLine hasnt shown the ability to consistantly open holes for backs the past couple of years. We don’t do bad on the front DLine, but the blocking downfield, which is probably a stab at the WR’s lack of blocking, has been bad. Where have all the long runs gone? 3 yards and a cloud of dust? that’s gonna take a lot of carries to get to 1900. I do believe Murray could get 1300 rushing and 600 receiving totaling 1900 together….he’s a great receiver out of the backfield, hope we use him more that way.
BOOMER!
I'll give you last year no doubt
But not last couple years. We definitely need to get some road graters in there and know that we can line up and get the tough yards even when our opponent knows it’s coming. I feel like Wilson’s play calling is so predictable that if we can’t do that 1900 for any back is just a fantasy.

Wilson's play calling
I agree….Wilson’s play callin’ is a little too predictable some times, it can get on your nerves quickly. And yes, when teams KNOW we’re running the ball in short yardage situations, more times than not, they had defenders in our backfield stopping us for a loss.
I agree on the downfield blocking
Also, I watched a Sergio Kindle highlight video and it was sickening how the Texas DEs were living in the backfield. There is no way Demarco is going to be able to make them both miss.

Wilson
It doesnt help when you can see the line wiating for the call, Brown or Murray shifting & then Jones hurrying. The running plays are sooo ridiculously obvious. Ironically the best the OL blocked was when they finally simplified the blocking scheme for all the "new’ faces….like the OSU game & Stanford….
+1
I absolutely HATE when they do the hurry up and run play! I realize that’s not exactly what you’re talking about, but it’s just a gigantic pet peeve of mine. The line is never really set, they never get off the ball well, and the play inevitably goes for minimal gain at best.
It has worked even fewer times than the Wilson Special. For those wondering, the Wilson Special goes like this: Goal line/red zone offensive set, play action, pass to the FB in the flat.

in 07 he made to the 12 th game of the season & in 08 he got hurt in the big 12 championship game. Yes, he was injured, but he played both of those seasons to or thru the last game…
yes, no.
Has yet to make an injury free season

you asked season
Technically yes. He played the entire 2008 season (you ARE familiar with that season being a texass fan). He was injured in the big 12 championship game, missing the remainder & the bowl… the POST season….
DeMarco...
Read on SI.com. He has missed a total of 6 games because of injury in 3 years. It is the games he has missed…. Big 12 championships & Bowl games that are the kicker. O/W he has missed 1 regular season game
