Jeff Capel To Hold Press Conference
Oklahoma men's basketball Head Coach Jeff Capel is scheduled to hold a press conference at 2:30 PM (CT) today, his first time in front of the media since the conference tourney.
It should be very interesting to hear what he has to say. Check back later for a recap.

I can’t get the video to play. Do I need to join the CBS site or something?

What's on his mind?
It will be interesting to see what he has to say…
Is he leaving? Is he signing recruits? I just want to know what the plan is going forward.
Not sure
He said a whole lot, but just hearing him address the issues I feel much better than I did before today. I was very happy to hear him pretty much answer every question and not just pull a Stoops with pointless coach speak. Don’t get me wrong, he’s still got A LOT of work ahead of him but he help reassure this Sooner fan that he’s still the right guy for the job (for now of course).

Did he talk about his plan as far as recruiting a TEAM for next year?

He did
Said that they would not just bring guys in just to fill out the roster. He said that they will only sign guys that they feel fit what they want to do and if that means they have a couple left over schollies then so be it.
He didn’t address very much w/ the Tiny situation other than to say he is still considering whether or not to come back (that’s assuming OU gives him the option of course pending this investigation). So at this point they do not have a center or a point guard for next year (sweet!).
Like I said above, I gained some respect for him today by coming out and answering all their questions. He’s got a long road ahead of him in rebuilding this program and make no mistake, given the current state of our program it’s not a matter of reloading. That ship sailed awhile back like around the first month of this past season.

Its going to be tough to recruit any talented players because honestly just about all of them are gone. if you can’t recruit with the amount of playing time that is available right now then there is a problem.
I’ve got faith in him, an hope that he doesn’t make the same mistake of selling his soul to the “McDonald’s All-American” gods. He needs guys that can come in and play a particular role and make the team better. He can’t have 3 guys with one foot in the NBA and one foot in the college game.
yeah
It really hurt missing out on virtually every JUCO kid we had targeted. We really needed at least one or two to kind of stop the bleeding and help bridge the gap, but given the current state of our program it’s hard for me to hold it against any of those kids for not signing w/ us.

you are right there. But we really really needed to sign the 7 foot center with 3 years of eligibility left as well as a PG and a SG. The guys we have left are decent, but you don’t win the Big-12 when Cade is the star player. He’s a fantastic role player, but he’s not an Alpha-Dog by any means.
There are enough diamond in the rough kids around to fill out a roster, but we’ll see what Coach C comes up with.

As a die-hard fan, it pains me to admit that it is going to take at least 2 years of solid recruiting to get out of this mess. WW shouldn’t went pro after his 1st year. He was a pouting poison, and he taught the young guys the same type of mentality.
We need to find some solid JUCO kids that can play ball right now and throw a scholarship at them. Forget waiting on TG’s situation to work out, send him pro and replace him. If its breaking up, why not just get rid of all the bad seeds and start over.
What a mess
He needs a whole team. But, it’s April already, and a little late to do any quality recruiting.
If Capel is not on a hot seat now, he will be before the end of next year.
