Tommy Mason-Griffin Leaving The Sooners?
According to the Tulsa World, Tommy Mason-Griffin has left the OU basketball team with no intention of returning. If true, this would be yet another gut shot for a OU basketball program that appears to be teetering on the edge of absolute disaster. Personally, I wasn't really worried about TMG leaving mainly due to his emergence as the leader (at least in terms of talent) of this team throughout the course of this terrible season. Apparently, that wasn't enough to keep him here so it will be interesting to see where he winds up again should this story be proven to be true. If he thinks he's going to the NBA then he's in for a very harsh reality check in my opinion. Let's hear what you guys think.
Editor's Note - Keep in mind that nothing has been verified and some are still reporting that he was just back in Houston for the weekend. That being said, the Tulsa World apparently felt like they had enough to report on the story. - Jon Woods

This was a major internet rumor over the weekend
I was hoping that we’d find out today that he’d just gone back to Houston for spring break but was back in class on Monday. Guess not!

Just added that note.
Some are saying that he is supposed to be back today. Either way I guess that we will find out this afternoon/tomorrow.

At this point
I don’t really care what happens. I doubt it would be much worse than last year.

I tend to agree
But if we lose TMG, Warren, and Gallon plus any possible repercussions from the Gallon taking money issue this program could really be on the brink of disaster. They are getting dangerously close to becoming the laughing stock of this league depending on how this all shakes out. I also read that because of all the kids we’ve had leave, the graduation rate could become a problem and we could lose scholarships due to being below the NCAA requirement.

I have a good friend
who knows folks around the university…and lets just say he’s not a fan of Capel. He really doesn’t think he’s the guy for OU. He was saying the program was going to go downhill for awhile now. I thought he was over-reacting…..but maybe he’s right.

not right for OU
i hope you are talking about your friend and not the opinion of tmg because his opinion of what is right for OU is just plain stupid. I, for one, have not given up on capel (yet). I do have a problem with the apparent character and commitment (or lack there of) for the players he recruited last year. I thought for a while it was just the entitled attitude of kids today, but other coaches recruited similar mma’s and don’t seem to be having the problems that capel has had. Hope that is just bad luck, and not bad judgement. OU basketball can NOT afford a repeat of recruiting mistakes in the near future.
Team FIRST, Effort SECOND, Talent THIRD, Selfish NEVER
he doesn’t think Capel is right for OU. My friend doesn’t think Capel is ….. very personable.
example…you are at a dinner/promotion with lots of donors, and he doesn’t shake hands, and gets irritated when asked to sign autographs. I mean..it’s an event, just for glad handing, and working the crowd. An event my friend remembers Billy Tubbs going out of his way and telling stories, etc. That’s the difference, and why CAPEL is not a good fit in my friends opinion.
that’s me trying to tell the story nicely…by the way.

That's interesting Hawk
And not in a good way. I don’t think anyone expects Capel to go out of his way to mingle with the fans or anything, but when at an event like that I don’t think it’s at all unreasonable to ask the guy to be personable. That’s the first time I’d ever heard anything like that about him.

So it looks like...
TMG is declaring for the draft….HUGE mistake.

Nothing solid yet
But I was just seeing the stuff that Draft Express was posting on his Twitter and it seems that its a foregone conclusion.

He's using the Tulsa World story as a source
The Ralphie Report - University of Colorado Athletics
The Crimson and Cream Machine - University of Oklahoma Athletics
I heard on the radio
That Dean Blevins (admittedly, sketchy at best as a source) believes that he is declaring and it’s not a transfer situation. If true, this has to be one of the worst decisions regarding declaring early in quite some time. I don’t see any possible way he is a 1st round pick and I could easily see him not getting drafted period. I just have no idea what he could possibly be thinking.

If the player doesn't sign with an agent
can’t they return to school? (I’m pretty fuzzy on that)

They are given a window
To go to pre-draft camps and get an evaluation, not sure of the date though. But yes, as long as they don’t sign w/ an agent and don’t declare by that deadline they are allowed to return to school. James at TX did it last year and obviously wound up coming back. However, if even only a small portion of what is being floated out there is true I wouldn’t expect this to be one those situations. Evidently they really don’t like being in Norman I guess and if that’s the case then for me personally, good riddance to them.

And the Draft is too late ???
they can’t say, “I was drafted too low, I’m going back”,…is that correct?

Actually
The NCAA let Kentucky’s Randolph Morris come back to school after actually declaring but not getting drafted, very rare but could happen but won’t.
