Norvell the Next Head Coach at Pitt?

According to reports from the Pittsburgh-Gazette, Oklahoma Co-Offensive Coordinator Jay Norvell is now a candidate for the Head Coaching position at Pitt.  The Daily Oklahoma has also picked up the rumor today as well.

Dean Blevins twitted today:  Norvell's a dandy & may b qualified 2 b named head coach @ Pitt. But how can they hire a position coach? Resume' legit but how sell 2 fans?

Well...there again Deano...he's more than just a position coach.  He worked with Pitt AD while they were both at Nebraska, where Norvell was an Offensive coordinator.

Everyone is still reporting that Okla. St OC Dana Holgorson is still the leading candidate for the Pitt job, followed by Temple head coach, Al Golden, who Pitt formally has asked permission to interview with.

So, we were worried about losing Josh Heupel.  It might be Jay Norvell, may be the one that will be hired away.

This wouldn't be good for us

Norvell is at the top of his game and we attracting the attention of top wideouts, along with running backs, year in and year out. This man can flat out coach wide receivers, and recruit them too.

Two words;

Trey Metoyer. Someone get the man on the phone. Last thing we need is him deciding he wants to follow Jay to Pitt, and be the next Fitzgerald.

Norvell/Heupel Co-OC?

On BON they’re talking like this is a done deal, but I haven’t seen it elsewhere. Anyone?

We've got a story up now

Just waited until it was actually official. Interesting developments though

It's fine.

As long as everyone agrees on a timeline. If not, it gets a little tense…

what if every agrees on a timeline

than one side…say his name sounds like “Smack Clown” decides to not retire after all?

I would think it will take Shannon some time to get familiar in Texas with recruiting

Shannon deserves a good job..

if he lands the ut OC job he might better get used to losing for another year or so. I really don’t see how ut is going to zoom back to the top with all the changes taking place.

Carr may be top PITT choice

Former Michigan coach lloyd Carr was spotted in Oakland today. Rumors have begun circulating that the former Wolverine’s HC is now the top candidate at Pitt

by jam24 on Dec 14, 2010 5:27 PM CST reply actions

intersting

I would have assumed we’d start hearing some more names. I wonder why it’s taking so long to fill this job. Pitt has a top 25 recruiting class lined up so far this year.

and my big question is the promotion of Jay Norvell at OU in anyway take him off the list?

Not sure

what coach would turn down the offer to be HC in an AQ conference…and a WEAK one at that. Might just be a pot sweetener from Stoops and the university.
