With Muschamp out of the conversation, who will the U turn to?

ESPN.com - Miami athletic director Kirby Hocutt met with Montreal Alouettes coach Marc Trestman in North Carolina on Saturday to discuss the Hurricanes' current vacancy, the Miami Herald reported Saturday.

Trestman, a graduate of Miami's law school, was an offensive assistant at the school from 1981 to 1984.

The Herald reported that Hocutt was expected to meet with Temple coach Al Golden on Saturday, as well. Golden was in Philadelphia for the team banquet Saturday afternoon.

A source told ESPN.com's Pat Forde on Saturday that Miami could have a new coach as soon as Monday.

Sources told ESPN that Trestman, Golden and Connecticut coach Randy Edsall are the top candidates for a job that was held by Miami alum Randy Shannon for the past four seasons.

Former Miami assistant and current Texas Tech coach Tommy Tuberville remains a possibility, sources said. Tuberville told the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal on Saturday that he was not offered the Miami job, but that he did speak to the school about its opening.

Shannon was fired on Nov. 27 after a 7-5 season.
