Venables has to go, and Wilson needs to be put on probation

Venables has had 11 years at OU to master his job. His team has as much defensive talent riding the bench as most top 25 teams have on the field. Yet OU still routinely gives up 400 yards a game even to terrible teams on the schedule. During games OU"s players are continuously out of position on the field. Blitzes are called at inappropriate times. Soft zone coverage is called at inappropriate times. OU's defense NEVER plays honest....so they are always stunting to one side or another, creating huge holes for the opponent to run through. I don't blame the kids at all...it's apparent they are playing hard, but they are being let down by their dunce defensive coordinator. And the worst of all is that Venables isn't intelligent enough to make halftime adjustments. Once OU gets behind in a game, it's pretty much over unless the other team turns over the ball like crazy.  During the OU/Missouri game for example, Missouri's offense was ripping our defense to shreds. What changes did Venables make to the defense in the 2nd half? Did he switch over to a 3-5-3? Did he switch over to a dime tight coverage defense? No. He didn't change a goddamn thing, and Mizzou came out in the 2nd half and ripped OU to shreds again.  Venables may be a nice guy, and he might be Bob Stoops friend, but the fact is he's an inept defensive coordinator and through his ineptitude he's squandering the NFL caliber talent on OU's defense. OU's defense has been largely mediocre, at best, since Mike Stoops left to coach Arizona.

Kevin Wilson needs to be put on probation by Stoops. Wilson is the opposite of Venables however, and extremely competent. I think he's one of the best OC's in the country. But the lazy unimaginative playcalling in the game last night versus TAMU is absolutely unacceptable. 3 separate times at the 1 yard line in the game OU tries to repeatedly run RIGHT UP THE MIDDLE where the defense is stacked? WHAT??? The point of an offense is to move the ball, and to do that you run or throw the ball where the DEFENDER ISN'T.  That was pure laziness on the part of Wilson. Also I find it disturbing after being the coordinator for quite awhile at OU that Wilson hasn't upgraded the offensive line enough that we can dependably run when we need to. Wilson needs to be put on notice by Stoops that there are other competent guys out there who can probably do his job as well as, or better, than he can. Like Josh Heupel for example.
