Why is Landry Jones getting so little respect?
When the "experts" mention the best QBs in Div. I football, they say Cam Newton, Kellen Moore, and Brandon Weeden most of the time. But why do people keep overlooking Landry Jones? He is 3rd in passing yards, 2nd in passing TDs, and 2nd in completions. But more importantly... when you compare him to the other top 10 QBs in passing yards and passing TDs, he has the least amount of INTs of all of them (7). And he is putting up these kinds of numbers as a red-shirt sophomore, unreal!

I wonder the same thing, but his QB rating is not top-10
Plus his average yds per attempt is low and his number of sacks is high. These, I guess, are what have his QB rating in the 140s range. Not so hot a stat compared to many others the last time I checked.
Sorry..
I replied in the wrong spot. My response is below…

Good point...
when you throw the ball as much as he does, I guess you have to take the good with the bad. He has a 148 rating, which is 26th overall. Not the best, but still not too shabby.

Simple answer = He plays for OU
ESPiN hates OU
"I don't like Texas. I don't like the city of Austin. And I don't like the color orange. It reminds me of puke." The Boz
Agreed!
They hate anybody outside of the SEC.

Screw ESPN
After working 6 hours, I have had lunch with a bunch of whorn fans who think they have a lot to play for…. shut up dude you suck….
the real answer
Newton = undefeated, and he is a PURE athelete. If Newton came to OU, he would be starting bank on it
Kellen Moore= undefeated, that’s it, he plays on a girls team like it or not
Weedin = one loss, but we will take care of that on Sat. night
Landry does not have a signature win, none. If Landry had won more last year it mioght be different. This year Landry has shown no in-your-face leadership, has not taken his team on his shoulders and WILLED a victory. He really has been plain jane and it shows.
I wish Landry well because as he goes so goes the Sooners, and after all I am nice guy
I will buy that...
You can argue that Landry doesn’t pass the “eye test” in terms of being a big game QB, like Cam Newton (who had another outstanding game today). And most of the time, Landry isn’t going to take a game over. But… if he gets hot, he can certainly put a game out of reach. I would say Florida State would be considered a signature win for him. He played perfect that game and eliminated the ability for Florida State to even attempt to come back. As we see now, Florida State is much better than they appeared in Norman.

Landry chokes on the road
Plain and simple

Landry is certainly more efficient in Norman....
Argument there! But you can’t blame Landry for our road problems. The entire team plays bad on the road. Hannah dropping passes, kickers missing kicks, defense blowing coverage… those things cost us games. We need to get better as a team outside of Norman. We looked good last week; I hope we can duplicate that tomorrow.

Sorry...
I meant *No argument there

again as stated before...
he is a RS soph….now if he doesn’t continue to show progress in his development especially in the leadership dept then maybe they need to start sneaking in more reps toward Blake Bell’s way….any thoughts?
I agree...
He does make some questionable plays in key situations. But he gives us the best chance to win a championship if he continues to develop… primarily because he is the most familiar with this offense. But his numbers this season have improved a lot. He has only thrown 7 INTs this year, last year he threw 5 in the Nebraska game alone. I would love to see his mobility improve.

If I was the QB assistant or an OC assistant
I would already be getting BB plenty of quality practice snaps. BB is a spring and summer practice away from being the starting QB next year. It is a mental and leadership thing. If he can gain the confidence of his team mates it’s his for the taking.
You are correct, that is part of the reason...
Braford would have probably been the best QB in FBS history, if he would have stayed. But people need to realize that he is gone and Landry is who we have now. Landry is not Braford, but he does okay. He may not be the best in the country right now, but he is improving all the time. I think the media should give him more credit for his body of work.

I think I may have gotten some answers to this tonight!
Landry ended pretty well, but he also made some terrible decisions. O well, the good with the bad… even still, we won Bedlam!!!

Because
He still makes three ATROCIOUS decisions per game. None of those other QBs make that many awful choices. OU won DESPITE Landry last night. He’s the only guy in America that gets picked TWICE while throwing the ball away. Unreal. He doesn’t deserve Heisman hype yet. Not even close.
