2010-11 OU Basketball Preview: Returning Players
Its basketball time again in Oklahoma...Nope! That just doesn't have the same ring as it does for football. Nonetheless the Oklahoma men's basketball team plays their exhibition game on Tuesday night and then for keeps ten days later. With the departures big names and big faces from last year's squad the Sooners are seemingly starting over this season with these returning players needing to play some key roles for OU to experience success.
Cade Davis, Senior Guard - A career 33% shooter from three-point range, Davis started 27 games last season, and played in all 31, averaging 9.9 points, 3.9 rebounds, 1.0 assist and a team-high 1.5 steals. He also shot .392 from the field, .347 from 3-point range and .778 from the free throw line ranking second on team with 58 3-point makes.
Andrew Fitzgerald, Sophomore Forward - Started 11 games last season and played in 26 total. He averaged 4.8 points, 2.0 rebounds and 0.5 assists per game last season and ranked third on team with a .511 field goal percentage while also shooting .638 from the free throw line.
T.J. Franklin, Junior Guard - Played in 15 games last season recording two points, two rebounds and four assists.
Kyle Hardrick, Sophomore Forward - Appeared in three games last season recording one rebound and one blocked shot.
Steven Pledger, Sophomore Guard - Started three games last season for the Sooners and played in a total of 30 games. Averaged 6.2 points and 1.5 rebounds and 18.9 minutes of playing time per game. He ranked third on team with 44 3-point field goals while shooting .338 from 3-point range. He also shot a team-high .846 from the free throw line

only 5 returning players
many JUCO teams return more than 5 players.
I find myself in the odd position of actually wanting this team to fail so the bad hire can be replaced sooner rather than later.
But the Women’s team looks pretty good still!

I'm not as educated on the entire situation
but I wonder if last year was a case of a young coach making some bad decisions: mainly choosing the number of stars beside a player’s name, rather than his character. Maybe he learned his lesson and we can go on. Or…Blake Griffin and Kelvin Sampson’s recruited players made him look very good the last few years…we will see.
+1

it sounds like it is going to be a long season
I really don’t know enough about it to call someone a bad hire, but I will say this program is light years away from Billy Tubbs teams.
