2010 OU Baseball Preview: Infield


Oklahoma begins the 2010 baseball season in a few weeks (February 19th) with a four game series at San Diego State. We'll be breaking down our baseball preview into three parts - Infield, Outfield and Pitchers. Here's a look at the 2010 infielders.

The New Guys

Danny Black (Jr.) - Was a first team Northern California Junior College All-American last year when he hit .400 with 15 doubles, 34 RBIs, and 23 stolen bases at Feather River Community College.

Cale Ellis (Jr.) - A junior college transfer from Seminole Junior College, Ellis hit .299 with 11 doubles, 28 RBIs and 14 stolen bases while helping lead his team to the 2009 NJCAA World Series as well as the NJCAA Central District and NJCAA Region II Champions.

Drew Harrison (Fr.) - Hit .400 with six homers and 35 RBIs as a senior at Waxahachie, TX high school. Harrision was also 8-0 as a pitcher with a 1.20 ERA.

Chad Kettler (Fr.) - Rated as the top prep shortstop in the state of Texas by Perfect Game Crosschecker. Batted .411 as a senior at Coppell, TX high school.

Jack Mayfield (Fr.) - Hit .481 with nine homers and 30 RBIs in 2009 as a senior at Del Rio, TX high school.

Max White (Fr.) - Hit .576 as a senior at Durant with 16 home runs, 67 RBIs, 58 runs scored, 35 stolen bases, nine triples. Also earned an 8-4 record on the mound with a 1.13 ERA and 120 strikeouts in 67.2 innings. Earned first team All-State.

Returning Players

Garrett Buechele (So.) - Was the Big 12's Freshman of the Year last season and named a freshman All-American by Collegiate Baseball. Buechele led the Big 12 with a .396 batting average, 40 hits and a .479 on-base percentage in conference play and started all 63 games at third base for the Sooners.

Caleb Bushyhead (So.) - Played in 22 games for Oklahoma in 2009 as a reserve at shortstop and second base.

Bryan Groth (Sr.) - Played in 18 games, including two starts, last season without making any errors behind the plate.

Ross Hubbard (Sr.) - Made 14 starts last season as a designated hitter in which he had four multi-hit games. Hubbard saw action in 10 Big 12 games.

Tyler Ogle (So.) - Started opening day as the team's designated hitter. He started a total of 26 games (18 as DH, 7 as catcher, 1 in right field). Ogle had 6 multi-hit games and 3 multi-RBI games and a .545 batting average as a pinch hitter.

Cameron Seitzer (So.) - Started 20 games last season as the designated hitter, made five starts at first base. Batted .323 with 3 homeruns and 14 RBIs. Seitzer played in 14 Big 12 games with 10 starts.
