Kevin Wilson Staying Put – Josh Heupel Maybe Not So Much

Photo

-UPDATE 9:20 PM-

Minnesota hired Detroit Lions quarterbacks coach Jeff Horton as offensive coordinator this evening.

------------------------------------------------------

Wednesday Louisiana Tech hired Arizona offensive coordinator Sonny Dykes which ended rumors that Oklahoma offensive coordinator Kevin Wilson was heading to Ruston. Thursday East Carolina hired former Texas Tech defensive coordinator and interim head coach Ruffin McNeil which ended the rumors of Wilson heading to Raleigh. By all accounts it appears that the guy who engineered the most potent offensive attack in the history of college football is staying in Norman, at least for another year. However, quarterbacks coach Josh Heupel may be a bit of a different story.

Star-divide

Rumors are that Heupel is on top of Mike Stoops' list to replace Dykes at Arizona. Heupel isn't a stranger to the desert. He was working on Mike Stoops' staff before coming back to Oklahoma as the quarterbacks coach.

Another place Heupel is familiar with is the Twin Cities where he flew to for an interview with the Minnesota Golden Gophers on Wednesday. Minnesota head coach, Tim Brewster, is looking to replace his offensive coordinator after Jedd Fisch bolted to join Pete Carroll's staff in Seattle. Heupel interviewed for the same job in Minnesota last year.

AZ okay, I hope not Minn

Do you know how cold it gets in Minn and for how long? Not for me and I don’t want any to be subjected to that cold. But on my travels to Minn almost everyone I met, worked with or saw were happy and pleasant. Oh yeah when it comes to lunch most all of them drink beer then back to work. Maybe that is why they are happy?

My sincere hope?

That Josh continues to advance and improve into a great coach…and then he comes back here to run the Sooners’ O and is given a Will Muschamp/Jimbo Fisher deal for when Stoops eventually leaves. Looks like that plan is still on track!

I hope so as well

Heupel is my favorite player to ever play for OU. I would love nothing more than for him to replace Stoops when the time comes.

NOOOOO

Hire Wilson…..not Heupel….

Heupel shows up late, leaves early and complains alot while he’s there He writes X when it should be O’s…you don’t want to hire him……Wilson however, is an offensive braniac

Jason White Can't Hang out at Winstar Forever

This may be the opportunity to lure him away from his role in the lucrative rental property market in Norman

Hypel vs Wilson

I would consider it a setback to lose Hypel. He may not have had the timed served to make a great oc. But the experiance he brings to the qb’s at Oklahoma is at the very best understated. Hypel is unique at adjusting to what is being thrown to you now in a game. That is priceless.
He is also a great teacher as to do what to improve your Qb game.
I would rather have Wilson leave with what he has taught Hypel and wait 2 years to be in the nc mix again than to loose Hypel and always struggle at qb when the game gets tough.
Football is always about change and his new thoughts and game plans will work well with the buffering of an old dog like Stoops.
