DeMarco Murray Returning For Senior Season

"I won't have to share carries anymore so I will get to play a lot more than I have here and be the guy," Murray said. "My mom wanted me to walk [graduate] as well."

It looks like Murray has been told that he'll be the go to guy in next year's offense. This will allow him the opportunity to prove durability along with his skill to NFL scouts. Definitely some good news for the Sooners. Besides that, you don't ever want to cross momma.

personally

I find it hard to believe that he won’t be splitting carries next year w/ one or more of: Calhoun/Miller/Madu/Clay/Finch. Whether it be due to attempting to minimize the risk of injury (which DeMarco is unfortunately well known for), scheme advantages to utilize him in the slot more or out of the backfield, or simply to rest the guy due to the previous example. I’m always happy when a guy of his potential decides to come back, but I also don’t want that to prevent the development of some of the younger guys. I’m sure Stoops and Gundy will figure out a rotation that works just fine.

I think

That makes sense, assuming he can hold on to the ball. I did like the look of Jonathan Miller though as well in his brief playing time this year. It will be interesting to see what they decide to do w/ Madu and whether one or both of the incoming freshman redshirt.

I was very impressed with Miller

And thought that he outplayed Calhoun when they got garbage time. But I’m not sure how Miller will be coming off a knee injury and I also think that Calhoun is one of those backs who need some time to get warmed up and gets stronger as the game goes on.

Obviously his rushing total against UT is too high

He needs another year to bring that down a few more yards!

Zing, see y’all in October…

more good news!

Tulsa World is reporting that Jeremy Beal is coming back as well. Now we’re just waiting on word from Travis Lewis. Don’t think there was ever really a chance of him leaving, but until it’s official you never know.

Best news I've seen today

Even though he didn’t mention it, I wonder if it was partly due to what his draft projection info came back as, and because of the other backs going pro. He’s electrifying every time he touches the ball. Injuries are always a concern, but he needs another year to shake off any doubts about durability.

jtesooner – I’d also be surprised if he didn’t end up splitting a fair number of carries. But then AD split carries and it didn’t hurt his stock one bit.

I agree

Frankly, I think sharing carries will only help to keep him fresh and increase the chances of more explosive plays from him. I’ve been wanting Wilson to find more creative ways to get him involved in the offense sense he arrived on campus. He’s done it at times, most notably this past year, but w/ DeMarco’s ability getting him the ball in space should be priority #1 for this offense next year. I also think his second consecutive non-rehab (knocking on wood, really hard) off season will make him even better next year.
