Power Poll

There has been a lot of talk about a certain AP voter (Doug Lesmerises) and the way he has ranked his teams in the AP poll. Though I wouldn’t go to the extreme that he has on some of his rankings by placing Oklahoma State and BYU above Florida or putting Miami at number 2, but I do agree with his way of looking at the present body of work instead of preseason speculation or reputation.

With that in mind here is my Power Poll. I ranked just the top 10.  READ MORE

Do you not agree with his rankings? What does your comment mean?

Personally, I think LSU is extremely overrated and I would not be surprised to see UGA beat them by 2 TDs this weekend!

I like the idea of putting more emphesis on what teams have done this year over what you expect them to do based on their name or history. However, I do believe that you have to consider last year just a little bit when you are ranking teams during the first few weeks of the season. Sure Houston should be ranked highly, but you CAN look at last year a little bit to see that we know how good Florida is because they have everyone back on defense and last year the d was very dominant. There’s no reason to believe they won’t be just as dominant this year. I think we all know who is better between the two. I agree LSU may not be as good as most people think. But, I bet you would agree that if they played Houston you would lean towards picking LSU. I’m just saying that there are several different ways to look at rankings. Just because a team starts out number one doesn’t mean that they shouldn’t be knocked off of that spot just because they haven’t lost yet. Alabama is better than Florida.

Just a side note..

…looking at the numbers, if LSU were to play Houston, I would still pick Houston in an upset!

It one was to do a power poll...

I don’t see how one can legitimately put OU in the top 25 much less the top 10, ahead of an undefeated SEC team. TU and Idaho State with a loss to BYU. That’s all that needs to be said. Boise State should be in the top 10 because the Oregon win is more impressive than Texas’s win over Texas Tech. And SC’s loss to Washington was awful, much, much worse than OU’s loss to BYU. Considering Ohio State has beaten Navy, Toledo, the University of Chicago and some intramural teams, I don’t see how that’s an especially impressive win.

Awful loss?

I wouldn’t say that SC’s loss against Washington was awful! With the addition of Sarkisian and the motivation now, I think Washington can be a very good team!

Everyone is so high and mighty on the SEC, but LSU only beat Washington by 8 points. Only time will tell if Washington is for real! But, SC has proven they can’t win on the road, in conference games.

Why Oregon?

I don’t think (in my opinion) UO is that great. They were 2 scores (one in each game) away from being 1-3! Also looking at the numbers, they’re horrible: 88th in total offense (before the Cal game, they were 111th [out of 120]), 43rd in total defense (before the Cal game, they were 82nd).

Texas played very sloppy (mainly McCoy) against TT, but I think TT is a better team than UO and Boise State. I think TT could very easily contend for a Big XII title and an NC in the near future. The offense will always be potent and their defense is consistenly getting better year over year.

Oregon could win the Pac-10 this year. They get SC at home and SC obviously can't win in the northwest.

Furthermore I think losing to Stanford is proof enough that UW is awful.

There is no justifiable way one can put OU in the top ten of a “power poll.”

Notre Dame

What do you think about ND? If you think they’re a good team, UW took them to OT this past weekend!

UW isn’t awful, but they aren’t fantastic! I think they could easily contend within the next few years!
