ok state and big 12 wonderings....
As i was trying to read up on okie state (seeing as how uga goes to stillwater this year) i discovered that there is no ok state blgo on sbnation. what is up with that? further, im having problems finding much of anything okie state anywhere. any suggestions? I know they're an instate rival, but not y'alls BIG rival, much like ga tech is to UGA. I also got to noticing how much different the blogosphere is in the BIG 12 world. Do y'all follow the SEC coaching drama at all? and do y'all ever wish that OU was a part of the intense atmosphere of SEC ball? just some wonderings on my part, not playing sec superiority card. I know the big 12 has some great teams as well as depth this year. I'm looking forward to our trip to big 12 land, but i have no idea what to expect when i get there.

OSU
Hello there,
As an alum of Oklahoma State, no one I know of refers to the university as “okie state”. Rather, most refer to the university simply as OSU or to the athletic teams as “Pokes”, as you refer to your club as UGA or the “Dawgz” or whatever.
Second, you’re quite right that there is little online info produced by fans about the Pokes. On occasion, you can find insightful postings on OSU here at Crimson & Cream, as was just done recently on Dez Bryant.
Stillwater, OK is relatively tame (unless you’re a Sooner fan I suppose), but I haven’t lived there in quite some time. OSU will be aching to beat somebody ‘big’ like Georgia. On paper, I’d pick OSU because (1) they’re at home, (2) they’re quite talented on offense, and (3) Georgia will be starting a new quarterback. Georgia could win if it can get enough stops. As you saw from last year’s BCS title game, OU had a good defense (not quite as stout perhaps as earlier in the decade), but this OSU team put up 41 points on them. Most key offensive players for OSU are back, but they lost their TE in the first round of the NFL draft (Pettigrew, now with the Detroit Lions).
By SEC coaching drama, I figure you probably include Lane Kiffin. I live in Knoxville now and hope Kiffin does well despite the antics. I’m glad Bob Stoops doesn’t do that stuff, but there is something about instilling in your team an attitude that they are going to win. My impression is that Kiffin is trying to instill a winning attitude, which was dampened by last season’s dismal performance. UT has the defense, just missing several offensive pieces, I take it. I look forward to see UGA and Auburn come up to Knoxville this year. About the only home games, plus UCLA, worth seeing.
HotDawgin you wont find much info at all
I am an OU fan but like to keep up with the OSU and there is little information coming out about them at all. They really dont put much into football and rarely sell out there stadium which before the Pickens money only seated in the 40’s. Now I believe it is in the 60s with the brand new stadium.
OSU is difinitely much more a basketball school and really only get excited about football when they get off to a hot start or OU is coming up. It really is kinda of sad for a school that had the best RB tandem ever at the same time in Sanders and Thurman Thomas that they dont have more of a passion for football.
Lets hope that the Pickens Project changes all that and they become as rabid about football as Sooner fans so we can have a true rivalry in football where both are competetive year in and year out like OU Texas.
I will do a full preview on them in a few weeks on Soonersnews.com and will try to remeber to send you the link.
But what I can tell you right off hand is there offense will be sick maybe the best in the big 12 which is saying something Defense will be second tier at best and wont stop top teams.
Really how much UGA should worry is based on how many starters you have returning on D, IF you have a bunch of newbies starting this isnt the team you want them to cut their teeth on that early in the season but if you have a solid D returning you should have a good chance to win,

No I never wish we were in the SEC
But I do often wish we got Arkansas in the Big 12 instead of one of the Texas schools.
I do think Texas sense of entitlement would fit well into the SEC, not bashing the SEC they earned the right to call themselves the best in the land but i do hate how mad they get when someone even mentions they may not be the best one year or another.
You have to earn the best conference tag every year and lately they have. I would probably rather of seen Arkansas in the Big 12 instead of Baylor or Tech. Even though Texas’ arrogance gets annoying especially when you look at their overall accomplishments which are lackluster given their history, tradition and having one of the best high school talent pools in the country, I would never break up the OU -Texas rivalry, the 2 on 2 off of OU-Nebraska is bad enough we dont need to lose our other big rivalry.

thanks
A preview would be huge. I’ve just been surprised that what is expected to be such a good team next year has such little fan talk online. Its pretty easy to find out info on every team we face this year except the mysterious cowboys. All we hear is good special teams, explosive offense, playmaking defense. I’m looking forward to some details behind the names we have heard. As well as some sort of fan attitude toward the game and maybe some tips on tailgating, bars etc. The UGA fan base really likes to travel to these OOC games.
As far as my sec comment, I didn’t literally mean “who wants to switch conferences?” But more along the lines of what do fans think about the sec culture. I was just very surprised to not find tons of ok state material to read over. Hearing about mediocre tennesse and auburn teams gets old fast.
And just for the record, i wold love to see some more big 12 sec matchups during the regular season. The big 12 has definitely outdone the sec in terms of ooc scheduling.
I do wish there were a conference that included UT, OU, OSU, TAMU, Ark, and LSU. What other schools round out that conference would be much less important, but that’d be a great conference core.

hey
i sat row 8 at the sprinig game but r o line didnt hold their own…..they wer bad but they didnt have the help of 2 1000 yrd rushing runnin backs runnin behind them or all big 12 full back and goin against one of the deepest and best front sevens this season didnt help them eaither
but are defense will be awsome this year causing more turnovers than last and getting sacks and fumbles n int’s left and right im just worried about 1 of the safeties wheather its sam procter or joseph ibloye coach wright will make the right decision p.s. ryan rynolds is like the never ending nitrous on the engine of the motor on this defense
on offense we need to get it to gresham and ar backs on screens and swing routes and are wr will b very good and deep believe it or not with tennel, kenney, caleb, miller, owens, broyles, and maybe jazz rynolds and sam bradford will find the open man like usual and some people may disagree but i never really like loadholt or robinson cuz they made to many stupid mistakes in big games if u watch the texas and florida games the comitted big penalties that cost us so i like the revamped left side of the line
thats just a lil info to make sure everyone is afraid of ou lol haha
SEC / Big XII match-ups
Oklahoma has done a pretty good job of scheduling out-of-conference match-ups, though I don’t see what’s the point of playing Idaho State as a 12th game this year.
OU played Alabama in a home and away during the Jason White years, and will play Tennessee in 2014-15 (boy am Iooking forward to that in Knoxville). Texas has played Arkansas recently, and in 2007 Auburn beat Kansas State and Missouri beat Ole Miss, and Missouri beat Ole Miss the year before that. Georgia beat Colorado in 2006. This is all from Big12sports.com, but this site has several errors in scores, I noticed.
Oklahoma State played at Florida back in 1989 or 1990, but Florida never did the return trip from what I recall.
You’ll have to dig around more to see about tailgating and the like, but you should check out Willie’s Saloon in Stillwater.
I hear Eskimo Joe’s is Stillwater’s jumpin’ little juke joint.
