The home crowd could have been the determining factor for the Oklahoma women’s basketball team as they were able to squeak past Purdue 74-68. Oklahoma trailed by five at the half but were able to crank it up in the second to outscore the Boilermakers by 9. Now the Sooners are bound for St. Louis and the Women’s Final Four.
Courtney Paris scored 19 points, grabbed 13 rebounds and blocked 6 shots but the hero was Danielle Robinson who was money from the free-throw line going 11-12. Robinson gave Oklahoma a steady scoring spark and was able to loosen things up underneath just enough for Courtney to get going in the second half. Oklahoma’s draw in the Final Four is Louisville who 77-60 upset win over Maryland who was the top seed in the Raleigh Region.
What scares me is Oklahoma’s lack of composure early on. They were playing in front of the home crowd at the Ford Center but couldn’t find their range in the first half. Whitney Hand helped lead a burst in the second half that gave Oklahoma the lead for good with two huge three point shots. However, in St. Louis there won’t be a hometown crowd to get behind the team. They’ll have to find it within themselves to find their way into the championship game.
I guess that gives us something to talk about the rest of the week as we should all be more than happy to be breaking down basketball games in early April.
