If there is a Crimson and Cream Machine jinx..

please don’t write about Colt McCoy, except to say that he sucks.

The swine flu takes a Will Muschamp shot every September.

Horrible effort

Those were two awful offenses. Wow our o-line sucks and the Big 12 North is an absolute abomination. I hope Nebraska gets to the Big 12 title game so Texas can destroy them by 30. In fact three points will be enough against Nebraska. I don’t what offense was worse, but just pitiful.

There was a firefight!!!!

Three enough

Three was all that your Sooners could muster up against the Huskers. LOL

Call me when you win something

Hukersforever, let me know when you guys win a championships of any time. Keep thinking of your return to glory. It will never happen, because why the hell would anybody want to stay for four years in Nebraska? Especially when you are not winning.

There was a firefight!!!!

HAHA

We beat you. Oh by the way what have you won lately. Not a bowl game. lmfao

And they say Huskers are classy...

I guess you’re the exception to the rule. And as unlikely as it may be, I will be rooting for the Huskers (a snowball) to win out and take the Big XII (hell).

What's Your Take On Landry Jones in 10?

I thought he had alot of potential – but am starting to doubt his accuracy. Does he go into 2010 as the definite starter? Or do you give that VHT Frosh a chance to start?

by realmccoy on Nov 8, 2009 12:53 AM CST reply actions   0 recs

Jones had his worst week I think I've seen from an OU QB since Bomar'd

But I attribute a lot of it to the very thin offensive line. In addition to guys who have been out most of the season, wasn’t the line also missing one kid for a death in the family and one guy to a shorter-term injury? A line with that many hits isn’t going to be good news for a QB facing Suh.

by burntorangehorn on Nov 8, 2009 1:15 AM CST reply actions   0 recs

HUsker defense

I would say it was the Huskers defense that made Jones look bad.

by Hukersforever on Nov 8, 2009 2:15 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Passing?

Why is it that Wilson continues to draw up plays that require Jones to throw the ball 30+ yards down the field on almost every play? Why does Wilson continue to draw up running plays straight up the gut of great defenses with the weak O-line OU has this year?

L. Jones needs to coached better. His accuracy is horrible, (too high, behind receivers, etc.) he tries to throw the ball 95 mph every time. I know he feels the need to hurry before he gets sacked, but that’s just coaching.

I can’t remember the last time I watched the Sooners go without scoring a TD. It’s just sickening. On the other hand, Dejuan Miller is going to be a great receiver & Broyles is the only playmaker OU has right now. I hope this years recruiting class is good and I hope our coaches realize it’s on them for these loses.

by oupony on Nov 8, 2009 7:53 AM CST reply actions   0 recs

I respectfully disagree....

I think Landry Jones lost this game. He threw under 50% completions and 5 picks. You might argue that the first pick was Tennell’s fault for not making a strong enough play on the ball and one of them was a tipped pass, but that’s still awful.

I don’t think the overthrows, penalties and constant pressure are the coaches fault. At some point the players have to execute what they are being taught. The defense made plays all night and gave the offense plenty of chances to take control of the game. Also, the coaches can’t go out there and kick field goals. The kicking game is absolutely horrible. I think everyone knew that this was going to be a grind it out defensive game and I think the coaches deserve a lot of credit because when you lose the turnover battle by 4, then the final score could have been a lot worse, especially in a tough road environment.

While I am a lifelong Sooner fan, I don’t like this team at all. There are too many mental midgets out there that are spoiling the efforts of great players like McCoy, Taylor, Beal, Jackson, Carter, Broyles, Murray and Brown.

I don't know what else anyone could say about that game.

3-10, pitiful. 5 interceptions and it could have easily been 8 … terrible, countless overthrown balls, several of the most stupid personal fouls. Terrible game played by the Sooners, terrible.

by scarab on Nov 8, 2009 8:11 AM CST reply actions   0 recs

Is there a Sooner anywhere

that actually thought OU could/would come from behind on the road to win? It’s been so long since that has happened, that I have no faith it will happen. It’s not like following different teams in the past when you thought a come back was imminent. There was a reason why the term “Sooner Magic” was coined.

Our Offensive line was terrible. Our play calling was terrible. Our passing was terrible. Our receiving was terrible. (were they surprised when a pass got to them?)

I said earlier in the year this team could finish 6-6 and was dismissed. Well, it’s still out there. And I don’t like it. For me, Stoops has burned the good will of his National Championship from 9 years ago.

Stoops is here to stay

You’re crazy if you think that Stoops has burned up his good will. Yes, he’s lost big bowl games, but they wouldn’t even been in those games without him. You’ve gotten too spoiled these last 10 years. I remember the 90’s. It was awful. I’m as frustrated as everyone else with our 4th one score loss, but I’m not ready to send Stoops packing because of one mediocre season. In fact, this is the best I’ve seen the Sooner defense play since Stoops has been there. Other than a blip against K-state, they’ve been incredible. I’m not willing to give up on Jones either. If he even had a mediocre o-line and running game he wouldn’t have to be throwing 50+ passes into dime coverages.

Stoops has a job for life?

seriously you believe that? Coaches are all hired to be fired.

And, it’s not about this year or one game. This current OU program, over the last few years (not just this year) feels like the Gibbs years to me. Nice, almost, one play here or there, but in the end and in the record books,….more losses, and a feeling of slowly sliding from a peak. Yeah, a lot of teams would love to trade places with us. Sure, but this is Oklahoma, not Texas Tech, or Arkansas (or 100 other schools).

Last time OU won a road game against a team ranked higher then we are: 2001. Last time OU came back to win a game trailing by more then 3 points in the 4th quarter: 2001 (same game against Texas A&M). Last Bowl Victory: Holiday Bowl 2006 with a 1-5 record in the last 6 years.

by Redhawk on Nov 8, 2009 3:22 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

stupid stats

They haven’t won a road game against a higher ranked opponent? That’s because OU has been ranked in the top 10 or even top 5 for most of the last decade. It’s pretty hard to go up from there. If you want to fire Stoops then fine. Who do you want to replace him with? Remember when Nebraska fired Tom Osborne because they wouldn’t ever win a nat’l championship with him at the helm? How’d that work out? They haven’t been a nat’l powerhouse since then. And yes this is OK and I for one am happy with a coach that can put the team in a position, year in, year out, to compete for championships. This year has been a blip. We lost a Heisman QB, an All-American Tight End, all of the leading Receivers, and our entire o-line. The only thing we have back is the core of backs, who because of the o-line can’t get anything done. Despite all of this the Sooners could have still been undefeated if not for this young, inexperienced team’s lack of ability to make the big plays when they needed to. You can’t put all of that on Stoops’ shoulders. When he starts putting together three or four 7 win seasons in a row then I might change my mind. Until then I’ll be patient with Stoops.

by akryan on Nov 8, 2009 3:47 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

The "who out there is better"

is not a good arguement for keeping Stoops. I had no idea who Stoops was when they hired him. I’m sure there are quality coaches out there that want to be one of the 3 highest paid coaches in college football.

As for putting it on Stoops is shoulders, it’s his players, his recruits, his development of them. If the players are lacking in ability…that’s Stoops’ fault.

I’m not saying Stoops sucks. But he has gotten stale. I think OU needs a new voice.

Said better from a commenter on the Daily Disappointment:

Coach Stoops is still a great coach, but I am afraid his philosophy at OU has become stale. I think Stoops would and could still be successful, perhaps a place like Georgia where Richt may not last too much longer. Stoops has been very successful at his first head coaching job, but like Mack Brown (on his way to perhaps his second National Championship), who was successful at NC, maybe it is time for Stoops and OU to part ways. Stoops would take any program like Georgia to the next level, and conversely I think a Kelly, Harbaugh, or Patterson would bring OU back to a National Champion it was nine years ago, under the best coach at the time—Bob Stoops.

Tom Osborne was never fired… He retired after the ’97 season because he was done coaching.

Seriously?

The goodwill of making Oklahoma the Big XII team of the decade, immediately following the worst decade of Sooner football since, oh, the legalization of the foward pass, is gone?

What in the name of Howard Schnellenberger is going on?

by Husker Mike on Nov 8, 2009 4:16 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

The Big XII champsionships

were and are great. But the continual egg laid after those games took some of the shine and good will away from those pretty quickly. I’m not saying that OU should win every game, or every big game, bowl game, or National Championship. BUT….it’s been several years since OU has won a big game, especially on the road.

by Redhawk on Nov 8, 2009 5:47 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Well, OU has one thing going for them that makes it look not so bad…

All 5 of your bowl game losses this decade were to different teams. I would rather have a yearly rotation of one team beating you rather than losing to the same team year-in, year-out.

Don't argue for the sake of arguing....

by Screwface on Nov 8, 2009 8:29 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

for this year

they should be able to re-load.

I think Stoops is a keeper, some of the assistants(Wilson, Patton, Norvel) should be scrutinized very carefully. Venables is a keeper as well. He has learned not to be hard headed and has at least taught the D how to disguise a blitz(it took for ever for them to learn). Wilson is a system type of coach. The system sucks without certain specific players on the o-line and in the backfield. It will be quite awhile before OU can pair an O-line and backfield of last years caliber. No matter how good they were last year, I will always remember their inability to score inside the 5 yd line in the NC game. Wilson’s doings. I would start with Wilson and send him on his way and ask him which assistants he wanted to take with him(Heuple would be hands off).

Bye bye Wilson.

by scarab on Nov 8, 2009 7:32 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

I didn’t realize Jay Norvell was coaching for you guys now… That sucks, he was garbage when he was here at Nebraska. His biggest recruiting highlights were Frantz “Hands of Stone” Hardy and Zac “I’m no Joe Ganz” Taylor… I wouldn’t think he could get a job at Taco Bell, let alone Oklahoma.

Don't argue for the sake of arguing....

by Screwface on Nov 8, 2009 8:35 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Yep, Morvel is at OU and

he is coaching players to have the ‘hands of Stone’ as well. Dejaun Miller must not be listening to him because it took forever for Miller to get on the field and he seems to catch the ball consistently.

There's much complaining. . .

about LJ and Stoops and the playcalling (deservedly so) but we must be fair and include the friggin’ placekicker as well. 4 stupid FGs win this game. How can a program like OU not have a guy who can split the uprights from 42 stupid yds? This is two years in a row that we’ve struggled at FGs.

by HiDesertSooner on Nov 9, 2009 3:16 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

Answer: recruiting and coaching

guess whose head that falls on? The Co-ordinators and their assistants. Kick is very very bad as you said.

by scarab on Nov 9, 2009 4:27 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

For the ones

calling for Bob’s head. Texas would really like that, along with everyone else in the conference, it would make it a lot easier for the rest of us to win it. Plus, I am sure Notre Dame would love to pick him up. Can you imagine what Stoops could do with all the recruits he could get to South Bend. That would be down right scary!!!
