Oklahoma 35/Kansas 13 – Post Game Reaction Thread

The Sooners won their sixth consecutive game over Kansas in football by holding the Jayhawks to nearly 200 yards below their season average. Landry Jones completed 26 of his 38 passes for 252 yards with two touchdowns. Unfortunately he'll be credited for an interception as well although we know that the blame for that belongs to Cameron Kenny who was benched once again.

Stats That Stand Out

Ryan Broyles                - 11 receptions, 121 yards.

Adron Tennell               - 6 receptions, 47 yards, 1 touchdown

Chris Brown                 - 22 carries, 78 yards, 2 touchdowns

Travis Lewis                 - 12 tackles, 1 tackles for loss

Auston English - 9 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss

Jonathan Nelson           - 9 tackles

Interesting Notes

  • It looks like Jimmy Stevens has been benched yielding to Tress Way.
  • Brody Eldridge started again on the offensive line. I think that he'll be there the rest of the season.
  • Tavaris Jerrries is suspended and didn't make the trip to Kansas.

Unfortunately for Oklahoma, today's win still has them on the outside looking in when it comes to the Big 12 Championship. The good news is that with fives games left in the season there is still time for something to happen. OU needs a lot of help still and playing the way they did today there isn't a game left that they can't win. Oklahoma State/Texas is a crucial game for us next week as one of them will be dropped from the ranks of the unbeaten in conference play and gives the Sooners the opportunity to at least move into a tie for second in the South.

actually there is still a change

sure as a longhorn fan you may not grasp that, but OU still has a chance. Like CC says, OU wiil need help, but, that’s not a crazy idea at all. long shot…sure…but it’s possible.

Unlikely yet not impossible scenario #1

Texas loses next week to OSU in Stillwater
We win all of our games (the toughest is most likely Nebraska in Lincoln and OSU @ home, but I think we win in Lincoln even though Nebraska will be up for that game, but if ISU can beat them then we have a shot and we will play OSU strong and we get them at home). Third piece is that the Aggies manufacture The Miracle in College Station" and upset y’all.

Out of all three of those, the one that I think is actually most likely though is the Aggie upset. I think you take care of business at OSU (it will be close, but I think their defense will tire and y’all find some running room early that opens things up for Shipley and Williams (that kid could be a beast if he hangs onto balls that hit him in the hands) late in the game, plus you probably pick up at least 10 points off of defense and special teams), and we win all but one of our games (Landry is starting to pick up his play and assuming that we continue to play like we did against KU in the 2nd half, I think our defense carries us through a squeaker in Lubbock against the Captain and his pirates, but we lose against OSU with a late second half miscue and then long-drive that we cannot stop a la BYU and Miami). But the Aggies with nothing to lose and playing at home come out and throw a gazillion blitzes at y’all and somehow find the same offense that hung 52 on Tech as somehow the Muschamp machine blows a gasket and gives up some big plays. It is definitely an intense rivalry game and for the Aggies could be the one thing which salvages their season.

Improbable? Sure, but sports always involves some degree of fantasy – that is what keeps it interesting. So, I’ll continue to inhabit my dream world until it comes completely crashing down around me in an improbably loss at home to A&M or some other unforeseen catastrophe.

Solid game for OU

or well….solid 2nd half. For OU to go on the road and beat a team ranked higher then they were is nothing to sneeze at. It’s been awhile. The 2nd half was a solid performance all around.

Oh…and our offensive line still sucks.
