Here's to a good game

As much as a blowout on either side might be amusing, that would leave my plans ruined. I plan to watch 3.5-4 hours of football, not 1.5-2 and then the rest with just a disinterested eye. I still obviously believe that Texas should be here instead of Florida, but this is a great matchup for any college football fan.

Mad props to both teams if they reach this absurd score here. Haha.

So. What’s the pucker factor tonight? A little excited, or what? Bring this back for the Big XII!!! I’ll be an honorary Sooner for 4 hours tonight!

I hate the college intentional grounding rules

He just sort of flips it out there while he’s being tackled, and that’s not grounding?

by Tom (RFTN) on Jan 8, 2009 7:59 PM CST reply actions

For some reason

I thought the NFL’s rule was stricter, but I don’t watch the NFL enough to know. Maybe NFL refs just call it more often.

by Tom (RFTN) on Jan 8, 2009 8:02 PM CST up reply actions

the NFL

refs are going to protect a multi-million dollar quarterback from getting hit. so, they just call the defense for hitting to hard if they hit the QB.

hence, no grounding.

Hey guys,

Impartial fan here (college football fan, but no favorite team). After watching the game so far, I am VERY impressed by Sam Bradford. He is extremely accurate and looks great in the pocket. There is no doubt in my mind he should be the first QB off the board in the draft. I also have no doubt in my mind he’ll be a much better pro than Tebow. He has those intangibles that are so important. I’ve never really watched him for a full game and I can see that.

If he is inside the box, he needs to throw it in the vicinity of a receiver, or loses a down. If he is outside the box, he just needs to get it past the line of scrimmage.

grounding

Quarterback A10 sprints out and is outside the frame of the body of
normal tackle position toward the sideline when he throws a legal
forward pass that lands beyond the neutral zone. RULING: It is not
intentional grounding when a passer, who is outside the frame of the
normal tackle position, and facing loss of yardage, throws a forward
pass that lands beyond the neutral zone, even if no eligible offensive
player(s) has a reasonable opportunity to catch the ball (including if
the ball lands out of bounds over a sideline [neutral zone extended]
or endline).

and how when I grew up in Oklahoma the biggest game of the year was Nebraska. Don’t fool yourself into thinking Texas was our biggest rival back then. Of course if they were still dominant it would make for a better rivalry. But I’m sure Corn Blight know what I’m saying. OU vs. Nebraska was the biggest game of the year.

Of hearing how great Tim Tebow is. I do not care that he does missionary work, most people don’t. Espn all week and the announcers tonight have sucked his dickk. They need to stop talking him up as a football player. He is at best an average QB when it comes to throwing the ball. He is more a an H-Back. He will never make it in the NFL.

by redraidercominatya on Jan 8, 2009 11:01 PM CST reply actions

I'll give this to you guys

Your player was almost right about Tebow. He wouldn’t be the fourth best QB in the Big 12, but he’d be the third. For some reason, these announcers can’t fathom that Tebow really didn’t have that great of a game.

by TheElusiveShadow on Jan 8, 2009 11:01 PM CST reply actions

Not "my" linebackers

I’m a Longhorn fan. Objectively, Tebow didn’t have a great game. It wasn’t a horrible game, but far from the “Superman” nickname that he seems to get. Those two picks in the first half were just atrocius throws, and he had an on-off day throwing the football.

by TheElusiveShadow on Jan 8, 2009 11:04 PM CST up reply actions

I'll have to agree

His passing effeciency was not that great. He was a great rusher, in the style of Vince Young, but compared to the throwing abilities of Colt, Bradford, and Graham, he is mediciore. The comment that he would be the 4th best QB in the Big 12 is pretty close.

OU -- 7 National Championships; 6 Big 12 Championships; 5 Heisman Winners; Most winning college football program since WW2
UT--4 National Championships; 2 Big 12 Championships; 2 Heisman Winners

Seeing as how I was a grad student at FL

at one time…I can stay on the bandwagon as long as I like. SEC kid. Just remember it was the SEC that did this to you. Better talent. More competition. Superb coaching.

Uh...

I’m confused on this one… “OUFootball?”

by TheElusiveShadow on Jan 8, 2009 11:02 PM CST up reply actions

Hold your heads high OU fans....

after all, you were playing an SEC team. Everyone knew that the SECCG was the true National Title game. Bama’s mediocre offense played FL better than you guys.

And the classless actions by your players tonight made me understand the whiny Big 12 fans crying all year about a playoff.

by brandonh on Jan 8, 2009 11:02 PM CST reply actions

Wow

I’m a Horns fan, but I’m going to have to say that CC needs to come in here and clean house on some people. Haha. Wow.

by TheElusiveShadow on Jan 8, 2009 11:06 PM CST up reply actions

Wow

You say that stuff about the SEC after the way Utah mopped the floor with Bama? Do you have eyes?

by dakotapalm on Jan 8, 2009 11:07 PM CST up reply actions

hardly a blowout

I will admit I thought Florida would win, but it was actually much closer than I expected. It was an even game until the last 5 minutes so get over yourself “OUFootball”

Did anyone see the Fat Eskimo OU Band Member crying?

that will be another classic just like that little kid !!! YES YES YES

sooner

I’ll start by saying OU isn’t my favorite school, but at least most of them show some respect. Most texas “fans” are some of the most classless and disrespectful people I have ever met. I think this year has definitely shown their true colors and rest assured I will be rooting for the Sooners to dismantle the mccoy and the rest of the shorthorns of texas come next October.

by redraidercominatya on Jan 8, 2009 11:12 PM CST up reply actions

shut your red raider hole

open it again when you can beat Ol’ Miss

by OUFootball on Jan 8, 2009 11:14 PM CST up reply actions

Surely you jest.

I guess you missed the Sooner invasion of BON after the Big 12 final standings came out. No fanbase is any more or less classy than any other. To suggest otherwise is just plain childish.

by ctex80 on Jan 8, 2009 11:14 PM CST up reply actions

Amen..

OU fans can dish it out during the season when the BIG 12 is hyped, but can’t take it when they get revealed for what they truly are.

by brandonh on Jan 8, 2009 11:15 PM CST up reply actions

Incorrect

When the coach (Mack Brown) is a part of the ongoing complaining it definitely shoots you to the top. Like I said a lot of Texas alumni are good people, but many of the others act like Mack Brown and just whine about everything!

by redraidercominatya on Jan 8, 2009 11:19 PM CST up reply actions

haha

you’re right leach complains his team into bowl games.
My bad

by redraidercominatya on Jan 8, 2009 11:24 PM CST up reply actions

how did mack saying anything get us into the Fiesta bowl?

And if you are talking about the rose bowl, we proved who belonged there.

Time for a playoff.

by Hook'em13 on Jan 8, 2009 11:26 PM CST up reply actions

I have a great idea!

I should start a Mack Brown church in which we all pray to him! I bet I could get a lot of uneducated t-shirt fans in Texas to join!

by redraidercominatya on Jan 8, 2009 11:28 PM CST up reply actions

Short memory?

I seem to recall Leach doing an extensive amount of whining after tech lost to UT in Austin in 2007—kind of the pot calling the kettle black, don’t ya think?

by EyesOTexas on Jan 8, 2009 11:29 PM CST up reply actions

The very few Sooners who went to BON were not regular posters on this site.

What’s your excuse?

by Sooner Vince on Jan 8, 2009 11:18 PM CST up reply actions

So was the Big 12 actually any good this year? (the answer I think is No)

so OU loses (again), Tech loses, OSU goes down to the Ducks, and Mizz and Texas barely squeak by Big 10 teams….

by coolconman on Jan 8, 2009 11:06 PM CST reply actions

Hey thanks for representin' Texas

All the other Big 12 teams choked, Thanks again Texas for an honorable season

by OUFootball on Jan 8, 2009 11:11 PM CST reply actions

texas choked as bad as anyone. Barely beating Ohio State? Give me a break. Texas was exposed.

by coolconman on Jan 8, 2009 11:21 PM CST up reply actions

How is winning getting exposed?

I understand that you’re upset right now, but that is a ludicrous statement.

by ctex80 on Jan 8, 2009 11:22 PM CST up reply actions

im not upset, im not an OU fan. It is getting exposed because some were saying Texas was the best in the nation. They Barely Barely beat a team that should never have been in a BCS bowl to begin with; a team that got blown out by USC. They even lost to Penn St. worse than they lost to Texas. That is how it is getting exposed. What would have happened if Texas had played a better team? We both know.

by coolconman on Jan 8, 2009 11:25 PM CST up reply actions

You obviously have never seen tOSU play

they not only played their best game of the season, but Texas played one of their worst.
And lets not even compare the USC game (without Pryor and Wells).

Time for a playoff.

by Hook'em13 on Jan 8, 2009 11:27 PM CST up reply actions

ha worst game of season, best game of season…nice try
USC played the Big 10 champ, who beat OSU, and KILLED them. Texas barely beat OSU.

by coolconman on Jan 8, 2009 11:29 PM CST up reply actions

Also Penn state Beat

OSU when they had Pryor and Wells

by gnarlybroncodude on Jan 8, 2009 11:31 PM CST up reply actions

wow

and Tech beat Texas who beat OU so naturally there is now way OU could win.. (same logic you just used). Pathetic.

Time for a playoff.

by Hook'em13 on Jan 8, 2009 11:32 PM CST up reply actions

what logic are you using? Too bad you guys didn’t kill OSU, then you would at least have some credibility

by coolconman on Jan 8, 2009 11:33 PM CST up reply actions

ccmachine needs to put a two day ban

on people newly joining up.. some of the comments on here are pathetic. OUfootball and brandonh are being utterly classless.
(and yes, I know OUfootball is a Texas fan).

Time for a playoff.

Let me tell you about classless...

since you guys seem to think the actions of a few condemn many, allow me to tell you about the Sooner fan I had to pleasure of observing at a local bar in Houston tonight. First, she shrieked at the TV during every play as if they could fricking hear her on the TV thus making it impossible for the other 30 of us to speak or hear. Twice, when Florida players went down, her quote was “aww poor floriday player got hurt” said in a baby voice. I watched the UT – OSU game with 18 people and we held up our horns when an OSU player went down. We didn’t mock him, we weren’t happy that he was hurt. When you play a team, you want to beat them at their best so you don’t have to hear excuses. Not that this directly reflects OU but she also couldn’t speak without using the F bomb. Because she was white trash and classes, should I assume all OU fans are? If you say no, you have no reason to insult the entire Texas fan base because of what a hand full of people post here.

by Pantheon on Jan 8, 2009 11:27 PM CST reply actions

if you are talking to me

you may have noticed I am a Texas fan and in no way did I say Texas was unclassy. I pulled out a select few (one of which was a Texas fan) and told them to knock it off.
I don’t like OU, but there is nothing to be gained by doggin on a team that just lost a mnc, there is nothing to be gained by it.

Time for a playoff.

by Hook'em13 on Jan 8, 2009 11:30 PM CST up reply actions

You are truly a classy guy...

Thanks for being a true sportsman and having respect for the players on the field.

by brandonh on Jan 8, 2009 11:32 PM CST up reply actions

That is their choice

If fans want to come here and vent their frustration by rubbing their loss in their face, the only thing to stop them is cc coming on here and banning them. As has been stated before, we had OU posts on BON when OU leaped us into the Big 12 championship that were pretty damn mean spirited so if you’re asking many of us to feel bad for OU, good luck.

by Pantheon on Jan 8, 2009 11:33 PM CST reply actions

As I stated before

Wishing death upon the entire Texas fan base, way to represent OU CrimsonBlood. Not sure what I expected of a fan rooting for a school named after land thieves. Murder wasn’t it though.

Alright this is how it will be

Enough with the personal attacks and the cursing from everyone. I am going to close the comments on this thread because this has gone from discussion to basically nothing but name calling.

CC is out of the country on business right now but when he is back, I will let him know all of what was said and who said what.

I am just as pissed about the loss as you guys but we are still Sooners and shouldn’t sink to the level of others with the name calling.

While I'm on the subject...

Tonight I read up on what a Sooner is cause I had just never really cared enough to find out. I was a tad shocked to discover that you guys are named after people who illegally took land in the Oklahoma region before it was made available. Is this common knowledge among students and is this ok? This isn’t meant to be sarcasm but it is kinda shocking. A school wouldn’t call themselves the “x criminals” so why name yourself something that indicates you broke a law?
