AP is confirming OU-BYU to open new Cowboys Stadium
(Bumped From The FanPosts)
I had heard the rumors and now it looks like they have come true - the Sooners will face the BUY Cougars in the first college football game to be played at the new Cowboys Stadium opening next fall.
While there are other college games scheduled, this will be the first one in the stadium and will be played over the Labor Day holiday, so it will be an early season test for the Sooners against what could be a solid BYU team who just lost to another Stoops coached team.
No confirmation over on SoonerSports.com though - they seem to be busy covering some other event currently....

How do y’all feel about two trips to Dallas so close together? I get the DFW exposure bit, as if there was ever any worry about that to begin with…but it seems slightly strange.
Agreed - another BIG stage to show recruits why they should come to OU
Not sure it will extend beyond this one game (they say it is a five-year deal between ESPN/ABC and Jerry Jones), but being able to play in a prime time broadcast in front of 80,000 has to be pretty appealing to lots of recruits and gives us additional exposure. I was looking around the BYU site but have not really had a chance to see who will be returning from their team for next year. This could be a challenge to open the season depending on who we lose and they return, but I think the rewards outweigh the risk.
It would be interesting to see who Notre Dame plays there in 2013 as we have them on the schedule in that year also. I can’t see them giving up the home game since they will sell out any stadium they play in, but that would be intriguing.

Might be, but agreement in place to keep RRS in Cotton Bowl through 2015

I’d hate to see it moved – especially after they renovated the CB to hold more than 90,000 and the new Cowboys Stadium will hold less. It just wouldn’t be the same, but, heck, at this point it seems money grubbing is the only tradtion that will last in college football.

some how Cowboys Stadium
will be able to have 100,00
Seating Capacity: A capacity of 80,000 plus standing room or additional seating in the end zones, along with ticketed areas in the end zone plazas can increase total capacity to 100,000.
Don’t ask me How they can have an extra 20k seats.
And I love the Cotton Bowl! and it sits 90k now….leave the OU/Texas game there! Unless they move the State Fair too…
Thought Clint Hurdle should be fired before it was cool.
Notre Dame
is playing Arizona State in Arlington in 2013, and, it is their home game. ND had a deal to play Baylor in Arlington, but since it’s ND’s home game, other options had to be found since the Big 12 TV contract would not allow the game to be televised on a non Big 12 network within the conference territory. So Baylor and ND will play in the Louisiana Superdome in 2012.
It all makes perfect sense, doesn’t it? ;)
