Harvin states "Cutting still feels awkward"
Harvin: 'Cutting still feels awkward'
Florida star receiver Percy Harvin said he is 90 percent healthy Monday as the No. 1 Gators prepared to face No. 2 Oklahoma on Thursday, nearly six weeks after he suffered a high ankle sprain against Florida State.
Harvin practiced for the second straight day but said he will not be tackled this week before the FedEx BCS National Championship Game. He began running routes and catching passes last Tuesday.
Percy's injury caused him to miss Florida's final game of the regular season, a 31-20 victory over then-No. 1 Alabama in the SEC title game.
"Cutting still feels awkward," Harvin said at media day Monday.

I've been wondering about this, and like hearing it... reducing his cutting and maneuverability will make him less a weapon.

Meh.
I don’t think Harvin’s ever been at 100% in a Gators uniform, to tell you the truth. And even if he is diminished, his 90% is better than just about anyone else’s 100%. He scares most teams more than any of our other weapons and that’s a lot to say, so you guy better be prepping for him like he’s gonna play lights out. I’m sure Bob won’t over look him…

One More Thing.
While you might be pleased that one of our guys is hurt, I hope all of your guys that can possibly play are at full strength. I, for one, never root for injuries…

Yes, and No
Yes, it is not sporting to hope for injuries, in fact, I’m sure we would all like to play each other at full strength to get a real measure. However, injuries happen. Both teams have them, with OU’s starting LB, and arguably the best defensive player out since Texas game, and now our starting RB is out.
This game is for the National Championship. It goes into the record books. No one in Miami remembers or cares that in 1987 OU was with out their starting QB or all conference Lydell Carr the Fullback. No one mentions the fact the OU’s loss to LSU in the Sugar Bowl 5 years ago, QB Jason White could barely stand on 2 blown knees. So if the mighty unbeatable, god-like super-men of UF have one of theirs slowed by injury……then that IS good for OU (though not something to celebrate)
Thought Clint Hurdle should be fired before it was cool.
Not Unbeatable...
but I do like the “mighty” and “god-like super-men of UF” parts, drenched in sarcasm as they might be. Just out of curiousity, which key players will you be missing for this game?

the biggest injuries to OU
1) Starting Running Back and leading rusher DeMarco Murray is OUT. The good news back up Chris Brown also had 1,000 yards rushing, and 3rd string Soph. Marcus Madu rushed for over 200 yards in the Big 12 championship game. And I could rush for close to 100 behind our offensive line.
2) Middle Linebacker: Ryan Reynolds out since Texas. Then replacement, young talented, but inexperienced Austin Box had a knew sprain, and will be limited. This is HUGE actually as the 3rd string is a JUCO transfer, and didn’t play much in the season starting in the Big 12 champ. game, and huge drop in talent level. In OU’s D scheme it’s all about the Middle Linebacker. He’s the one set up to be free to make reads and go over the field to make plays. And it takes some experience to make the right reads and be in the right place. Make it more so with a spread O that has a running QB.
BALOGUN, BOX WILL ‘BOTH PLAY’
Venables said he expects both Mike Balogun and Austin Box to see time at middle linebacker Thursday.
Box, who started the second half of the season, is coming back from a knee sprain that sidelined him in the Big 12 Championship. In his place, Balogun made his first career start in the Big 12 title.
"They’ll both play," Venables said.

Yeah.
Murray returned kicks too, no? That said, you should be fine at RB. The MLB spot (no one talks about how that changed the Texas game) is much more of a concern. I Box really is limited, that could be tough to work around. Thanks for the info!
I forgot
Granger, our #3 DT is out as well. While not an official starter he was a big play maker, and in the rotation that Stoops likes to use. This actually hurts as there is a drop off in talent from Granger to the next group of guys.
I hope I didn’t forget anyone else…..

"Awkward"
High ankle sprains on Running Backs just don’t go away fast. I saw this and another report on ESPN where Harvin was cleared to play and was 100% ready or something like that. Awkward is NOT 100%. I think this helps OU a bunch. Harvin was a huge weapon for UF. UF has talent, but not the broad depth like Oklahoma has (or maybe more accurately utilized). Injuries are bad, but this levels out the Browns injury somewhat.
Speaking of the War of Words heating up: Brandon Spikes:
“If they can stop our offense, hey, my hat goes off to them,” Spikes told reporters during media day. "But I really don’t think they can. As long as we play well on defense, give the ball back to Tim and the rest of those guys, we should roll.
I’ll highlight “We Should Roll”. I seem to remember this same attitude coming from Florida State in 2000. Even the UF players don’t think we will be much competition it seems. Did they miss the part where we had one of the highest scoring offenses in the history of college football? The more OU gets dismissed…..the more I like our chances!

Rallying Around Tebow.
This team would quite literally go to war for their QB. Don’t be surprised if the 100 or so guys on the team actually invade the state of Oklahoma! Seriously though, ever since Bradford won the Heisman and McCoy finished second the way that they did (with a bunch of people simply leaving him off the ballot entirely in favor of no one) the Gators defense has had the mindset of proving a point in this game, something the Franks comments only magnified. Don’t take Spikes’ comments as a sign that they’ll take you lightly, because they won’t. They’re on a mission to show the nation just how good they can be and what (they believe, at least) that would mean to the highest scoring offense in the history of college football. There’s a difference between getting dismissed and being dissed…

Fine line
and OU has been dismissed from everyone else it seems, it’s easy to see my confusion on this point. But from my seat, this lead in sounds JUST like 2000, and Florida State was shocked that OU not only played with them, but actually won the game.
Thought Clint Hurdle should be fired before it was cool.
Maybe.
Maybe it’s just me, but I just don’t see the similarities between that FSU team and this Florida team. Maybe the hype is similar, but our team is – from top to bottom – a completely different beast. Roughly 40% of ESPN viewers think you’ll win and the spread hasn’t moved from the original 3 points (which would be homefield and we are playing in the state of Florida). You might feel like bigger underdogs than you are because you’re used to being favored (and heavily at that) but it’s just not the case.
By the way, whether the Gators think they’re that much beeter than the Sooners won’t matter, because they obviously have no intention of resting on their laurels or coasting to victory. It seems clear to me that their aim is to play their best and let the chips fall where they may, blowout be damned. I think your team has what it takes to beat us, I just don’t think it’ll happen Thursday night. I respect you, your team and everything OU; I just believe my Gators will beat your Sooners and probably convincingly so.
I just believe my Gators will beat your Sooners and probably convincingly so.
You and every other person not in Crimson on the planet. And this is why I think this games sounds just like the FSU game.

Perception Does Not Equal Reality.
Unless 38% of voters on ESPN.com are in Crimson, that’s false. The betting line not moving (Gators started and are still at 3 point favorites) means bets are coming in at equal ammounts/numbers on both sides, further disproving your hypothesis. Maybe a disproportionate number of the Talking Heads and Empty Suits are picking the Gators, but the fact is that the Sooners are not that big of underdogs. Maybe it’ll help you get psyched for the game, but it’s just not true.
Those are very valid points
though the lines I’ve seen have Florida a 4pt favorite, but your point is still valid.
But not one, and I mean not one person have I heard on the Radio, or TV, gives OU a chance. And most, like you think this is going to be a big win for Florida. Even Spikes’ “We Should Roll” comment shows a little over confidence on the part of Florida, (both fans and players). And the comments are only getting bigger. It seems this should be a rout, a blow out, a “convincing” win. If there really was 38% thinking OU can win, you’d think maybe I’d hear of one somewhere, picking OU.
Thought Clint Hurdle should be fired before it was cool.
The Media...
Is a joke. Local sources are either homers or anti-homers. The National guys can’t stay up past like 10 PM EST, only check the scores and see the highlights. I’m with you on that being frustrating because it is for me… and I’m a Gators fan! I’m fed up with hearing all these idiots take our side and I can see why you like the other side (like us in 2006). However, the silent majority seems to think this is a good match-up. My heart and mouth might say blowout, but my head still thinks this is a 30-something to 30-something barnburner that ruins my heart for the rest of my life.
Redhawk: "Perception Does Not Equal Reality."
How very true…
Especially wrt the media portraying the Sooners as the only team talking trash and ‘disrespecting’ their opponent, either as a team or individually, when its been well documented what Spikes, Stamper & Tebow have stated… or that OU has a bad defense, when they play in a more offense/pass oriented conference and their opponents get two to four more possessions a game because of all the kicking off OU does, not to mention the gigantic leads they’d usually build and then coast to victory (sorta like how SC did v PSU.. the score did not accurately reflect exactly how dominant SC actually was [cough SC should be on probation]), or that OU & FU give up nearly identical rush yrds/gm (106 v 105.3) while OU does give up 80 or so more pass yrds/gm (see above) I don’t think Tebow will throw for more yrds than Bradford on Thurs… Perception does not equal reality….
No disrespect meant… I look forward to a great game on Thursday

Spread, Harvin & Respect
Spread was 3.5 this afternoon, up from the 3 I have seen for the past couple weeks.
Harvin will be effective – he was injured the entire year last year and nobody noticed until he had surgery on his heal to correct the problem in the offseason. It is likely his last game as a Gator and he’ll be showcasing his talents for the NFL. Expect some fireworks from him – he has scored in the past 14 straight games he has played in.
I think both teams respect each other but truly think they will win the game. That is how it should be.
This game is nothing like the 2000 game. That was when both teams had phenomenal defenses and the offenses were shut down completely. Maybe you’ll hold us to 2 points, but I don’t think it’s likely! (I realize that isn’t what you meant)
some morning papers have the line a 4.5 to 5
Play the game. The complete OU team, Coaches to the players, have an attitude. The winning ATTITUDE.
