Scouting The Baylor Bears

Tony Crocker was the hero when Baylor came to Norman last season!

The Baylor Bears are coming to Norman with a respectable 15-3 record including a Big 12 record of 3-1. Their lone conference loss came at the hands of the Texas A&M Aggies in College Station. The Bears lead the conference in field goal percentage at 49.5% and are also second in the Big 12 at three-point shooting with 39.6%. Baylor makes around 9 three-point shots per game and average 83 points.

The Bears will run three guards and two forwards just like the Sooners. They are led in scoring by Curtis Jerrells who seems to have been there for twenty years. Jerrells scores 17 points a game while grabbing 4.5 rebounds and dishing out 5.8 assists. Henry Dugat is one of the best sharp shooters in the conference. He connects on 41.5% of his long distance shots and scores 12.8 points per game. Tweety Carter averages 11.1 points a game and is accurate from beyond the arc as well. He hits almost 44% of his treys.

Kevin Rogers will be Baylor’s key to success and Oklahoma’s biggest challenge as the team that makes the most headway under the basket will score a major advantage in this contest. Rogers makes 52.6% of his shots and is good for 12.3 points per game. He nearly averages a double-double by pulling down 8 rebounds per game. He’ll be a handful for Blake Griffin and vice-versa.

The fifth player on Baylor’s roster averaging in double figures is LaceDarius Dunn who comes off the bench to score 16.8 points on 43% long distance shooting. He leads the team with 61 made treys.

Defense will be a premium in this game. Baylor won’t play very much of it but they’ll shoot lights out. Oklahoma must play perimeter defense forcing Baylor to work for shots and presenting opportunities for turnovers. On the other end of the floor the Sooners have to work the ball inside and make the most of the outside shooting opportunities that will present.

Jerrells scares me

The kid can flat out play. We have to contain him if we want to win today.
