The Illegitimate National Championship
Since we are still in the Festivus season, and I can still air my grievances I really have a big one. I got to listen to a lot of sports radio today (Jan. 2) and here's what I learned: NEITHER Oklahoma or Florida should be in the National Championship, and who ever wins it is a false champion. That's right, we OU fans have heard how we don't deserve to even carry the dirty joke straps of such a mighty team as Florida Gators, but today I found out that even Florida shouldn't be there.
Who should? Well USC of course, as they blew out a mighty Penn State team in the Rose Bowl, (that I said in the past Penn State couldn't beat Tulsa, and I still don't think they can). But USC, should be in the National Championship game according to the radio. OU of course shouldn't be there because the guess-perts think Texas should have been there. So the National Championship should be USC vs Texas, and only those 2 could be the legit national champion! That's right Florida, if you win you have to put an asterisk by this National Championship, as you didn't play USC or Texas, and since you didn't earn it, you're bonificies will questioned at best and worst, you will be an Illegitimate National Champion!
I realize that "controversy" makes for more interesting programing then does the happy satisfaction of correctness. I also realize that that they are really pushing for a playoff of some kind, as they will then have more programing. But it's getting out of hand. Oklahoma is NUMBER ONE! That's 1, as in best in the land, according to enough people and computers that put the Sooners there. Florida is NUMBER TWO! They won the toughest conference in the country (well, I guess this year the Mtn. West could say they are). There is a reason that USC and Texas aren't in the national championship. If you thought USC or Texas was that great, you should have voted for them, god knows you media lobbied hard enough for Texas.
Let the National Championship game happen. It's going to be a great one, and I can't wait! Let the team at the end with the most points be the winner, and then be so nice to actually recognize the winner as the National Championship.....that's what that crystal football means after all. No crying, no lobbing for another team or for a playoff...let the winner of these two deserving squads celebrate!
And while I'm airing grievances I want these two girls to sit next to me at a football game:

Next Friday
One of us will be wearing “2008 National Champions” t-shirts….nobody from Texas or USC can say that!
If those girls sit with you, then these girls sit with me….

Those 3 could
have me become a Gator fan!
Side note: the OU Alumni club has it’s watch party at the same bar in Denver (Jackson’s Sports Grill next to Coors for anyone in the area) as does the Florida Alumni Club. The Gators had over 300 people for the SEC Champ Game, and it’s the largest Alumni Club for Florida outside of the state of Florida (I guess a lot of Florida folks got tired of all that humidity), and I have to give it up to the Florida girls…..they are nice. And for the NC championship game, Jackson’s will be packed. We are going to have TV, added security, etc. And the bar will be split up with only the front bar being “common”. The Florida areas play hip-hop/dance during breaks, the Oklahoma side I play fast Country with a healthy dose of underground/red-dirt stuff.
The Florida fans here in Denver, have been very friendly to the OU people, as we know college football, like they do, maybe more. Something that seems to gain respect from other hard core program fans. (On a bad note, man, the Florida fans get trashed drunk! and I’m worried about this NC game) Or as I tell Florida fans: “you gave us Bobby Stoops, we gave you Galin Hall.” Which they almost always respond with, “He got us on probation”, and I respond with, “He turned your program around…the Oklahoma way!”
Thought Clint Hurdle should be fired before it was cool.

That bar ought to be crazy next Thursday
Hopefully everyone will play nice.
As far as the largest Alumni Club outside the State of Florida though, that would be the Atlanta Gator Club. We regularly draw 500-1000 at East Andrews, the largest of our 3 official viewing bars in town. I don’t know the official count, but there are several thousand club members. I have heard good things about the Rocky Mountain Gator Club….

Utah, has a better argument for the national title than USC does!
Sorry, I had to remove your photo. We can’t go down that road because it quickly gets out of control

That's ok
Here’s the linkage. It’s safe for work, but I think CC was worried about the next level.

Don't worry about it
The media always talks about how USC is the best team after virtually every season. Possible? Yes. But in the absence of a playoff, we’ll never see them play Texas, OU, Florida, Utah, etc. Just learn to ignore it. I would be surprised if nobody in the media was touting USC.

One thing that might help
….is getting rid of the silly conference/bowl tie-ins.
Unless they run the table, USC will be perpetually stuck playing one of the Big 10 clods in the Rose until that changes!

I think the Pac 10
should not go 1-6 against the Mtn West Conf. if they want to have their conference champ, which won with out a Conf. Title game have any respect.

I sick of hearing during every USC game
how much fun Pete Carroll is having. Of course he’s having fun, he gets the best kids from California and hand pick a few 5 star recruits from other states. He is for the most part rolling over the rest of the Pac-10. I bet he wasn’t having fun against Oregon State.
Some people are born on third base and go through life thinking they hit a triple.

Good post Redhawk
Interesting how the press, the internet, now coaches and players can’t seem to remember the RULES. Every team played according to the rules laid out by the BCS and Conferences. Guess who is there, UF and OU. Congrats to both teams who PLAYED BY the RULES that were agreed to at the beginning of the season.
I am sick of Carroll as well. I cannot wait until USC has to play a game the involves an MWC or WAC team that is disrespected. Carroll will get his due.

Like 'Bama in the Sugar Bowl
best quote from the paper was “They (Utah) played angry.”
And on that note, the teams that had something to prove in the bowl games, the underdogs, the disrespected seem to have out performed the team in the bowls that were there as consolation. Gives me hope for OU, as we shouldn’t even be in this game, you know.

Unfortunately
Its time to face the facts. Utah deserves the Championship. As passionate as we members of Crimson and Cream Machine are, Utah is undefeated and beat a great Alabama team. They are national champions.

Bama didn't play great
They almost seemed to pack it in once they got donw 21 to nothing. Yes Utah is a very good team but I still challenge that if they played in the Big XII or SEC they would have 1 or 2 losses.

You are a Texas fan
Saw it in your profile. Don’t come in here and pretend to ba a Sooner fan. I would respect you more if you just say who/what you are rather than lying about it. Anything you say from here on out on this site is just noise.

Maybe if they had the chance in a playoff, they would prove so
But for now, it’s all speculation. They’ll pick up a handful of #1 votes in the AP but that’s about it.

I hope someone doesn't try to put a positive spin on Bama's loss.
Bama did not loss to the #1 team and did not play in the NCG. UTAH is a good team and doesn’t deserve being awarded the NC. This starting to smell just like some of the other arguments. RULES are RULES. If people don’t like them, then don’t play the game or do something besides complain and work for a change in the system.
Good game UTAH, nice cinderella win but you are not NC’s. Bama got embarrassed by a much smaller team.

yes and no
LSU has last year’s trophy in the case and in a few years from now, we’ll just be looking at the list of previous champions and say “oh yeah, LSU won it in 2007….”
Nobody thinks the system is perfect, but it is what we’re stuck with for now.
