Cotton Bowl Game Thread

The north carried their weight in their bowl games this season by going 3-0. Shocking! On the other hand the south has lost its only opportunity to this point. Stepping up to the plate next (another baseball reference in a football post) are the Texas Tech Red Raiders who not only are representing the conference but also playing against the SEC in the epic, “Our conference is better than yours – nanny, nanny, boo-boo!” battle.
We also get to see how a team that

Red Raider Defense Wins The First Battle
Now, let’s see what the offense does!

Well...
The Ole Miss offense is not cooperating with my desire to see a Big XII offense against an SEC defense. It’s still early, but coming back on Texas Tech is no easy task.

Oh Man...
This was one of the three bowl games I was really looking forward to (along with Florida – Oklahoma, of course, and Boise State – TCU) and it’s living up to my hopes!

This game is going to be a shoot-out
NO defense so to speak. IMO I think that Ole Miss is a little bit better on defense at this point in the game.

So Far...
Snead has outplayed Harrell, at least by the numbers. At least Graham is playing well, unlike most of his Big XII counterparts. On defense, Texas Tech only had one long drive, also scoring on an INT and with a shortened field thanks to an inexplicable fumble by Ole Miss. The Red Raiders are good, no doubt, but they hardly look like the team that many thought they were throughout the season…

When he first started running I was saying, "That can't be what they want!"
Then he almost scored and I was screaming for him to keep his balance for just three more yards. That would have been a great end to the first half!

I am beginning to think
it will take a football miracle for tech to even look good in this game.

Yeah we sure won't
A team we destroyed is getting dominated by a team that beat Florida.
Yep, going to be real tough to sleep.

Tell us again about the SEC?
Because based on what I saw tonight the second best team in the conference wouldn’t be able to win the Mountain West.

Now the Tech defense has to stand firm
after that TD, they need the D to keep mo on their side.

safety vs. field goal – nothing going right for Tech at this point.

That portion of my memory banks have been erased
and just replaced with seething hatred of the University of Spoiled Children
This game was competitive for at least a portion beyond the first quarter at least. Last year if we could have made a stop late, we might have been able to creep back into it, but just like Tech, we would score and WVU would break open some big play to crush our spirit.

Saving Face.
Some garbage time stats will help make this loss look better than it was. Ole Miss came out of the gate like a team filled with players that had never been in a bowl game playing against a top ten team in their opponents home state, but the cream usually rises to the top on a football field and Texas Tech sank. Not an indictment of your conference by any means, but the Red Raiders fail to become an elite program once again. Big XII Qbs are still playing below their standard in bowl games…

Glad to see that the Tech offensive linemen acted like the upstanding gentlemen that they are
What a group of classless punks! They did the same junk in Norman when they were losing as well.

What is the sudden obsession this season with class and college football? Doesn’t what he did qualify a little more as losing composure? Being classless is sticking your hand down your wife’s pants in front of her parents at Christmas. Getting pissed at the end of a tough loss and freaking is losing composure. Just so you kind of get the difference.

I have come to eat a lil SEC humble PIE. Alabama was humliated. Nick Saban and his coaching Staff did a HORRID job in this game, The didnt maxmize the use of their greatest strength. In essence they panicked.Terrible play calling coupled with no adjustments to what Utah was doing and bimyaa Game Over.
Saludos to Utah on a fine game. The QB was outstanding.
See you all on JAn 8th or 9th win or lose ! Happy New Year

Seriously...
That was pathetic. Not to take anything away from Utah (they were clearly the better team) but Alabama’s vaunted coaching staff failed to prepare their team or adjust to what was happening. On the one hand, it’s disappointing as an SEC fan. On the other, it’s comforting to see this weakness on the part of the Tide as a Gators fan. Also, I enjoy it when the “little guys” step up and take down the big powers (Sorry, Sooner fans). The so-called non-BCS teams are now 3-1 in BCS bowl games, with two dominant wins, a signature win in – for my money – the best college football game ever played and only one blowout loss.

Arrogance on Saban's part is why the defense played the way they did.
Bama showed no respect at all for UTAH and most of it came directly from Saban’s mouth. I will enjoy Bama’s beatdown for quite awhile.
