USC Trojans Take Top Spot In AP Poll

The AP Poll is out and USC has taken over as the nation’s top ranked team. The Trojans received just one more first place vote than the Georgia Bulldogs placing them in the top spot by just 33 points. Oklahoma holds its spot as the 4th ranked team and picked up 2 first place votes.

Among teams receiving first place votes the Ohio State Buckeyes came closest to USC and Georgia with 15. Other teams receiving first place votes were Florida (5), Missouri (1) and LSU (1). How anyone could give Missouri a first place vote after their defense surrendered 500-plus yards of offense and 42 points is beyond me. I’m not saying…I’m just saying.

I'll agree on the 1st place vote for Mizzou

It was the writer from the San Jose Mercury News, who ranked Mizzou and Alabama at 1-2.

Looks like he just went with a straight resume approach, ranking wins by the quality of the opponent.

I think Mizzou is a Top 5 team, but they looked far from the nation’s No. 1 on Saturday.

I agree!

I would put the Tigers ahead of Florida but at this point that is about as far up as I could put them.

Yes but

that same pollster, Jon Wilner, also ranked Penn St at number 9.

Missouri 1
Alabama 2
Florida 3
Southern Cal 4
Ohio St. 5
Oklahoma 6
Georgia 7
Texas Tech 8
Penn St. 9
West Virginia 10
BYU 11
South Florida 12
Wisconsin 13
Auburn 14
California 15
LSU 16
Oregon 17
Utah 18
East Carolina 19
UCLA 20
Fresno St. 21
Wake Forest 22
Texas 23
Arizona St. 24
South Carolina 25

That is his entire ballot and to say that Penn St. was so much more impressive than Fresno traveling across the country to win at Rutgers is a little insane. This guy is a notoriously bad pollster.

Why does he think that

that Missouri is better than USC, Ohio St., OU, etc. He has LSU at 16 (five spots below BYU). This guys polling card should be revoked if he’s not going to take it seriously.
