Josh Jarboe Dismissed From The Oklahoma Sooner Football Team
So as you all have heard and can watch below, incoming Sooner Freshman Josh Jarboe's freestyle that made its way onto youtube has got him in some hot water.
Well Coach Stoops decided that the freestyle was the final straw and has dismissed the immensely talented Jarboe today.
“We are disappointed in this outcome, but our complete review and this final decision is in the best interest of our program” Stoops said. “We outlined for Josh the expectations we had for him when he arrived and, unfortunately, those expectations have not been met. Josh needs to learn from this experience. We hope he can move forward in a positive manner.”
As we all know Jarboe had been arrested on a charge that he had a stolen gun on school grounds but those charges had been reduced and Stoops said that he would take him back.
With Stoops' track record of giving some kids that deserved a second chance, I was all for giving Jarboe a second chance, but when your freestyle rap hits the interent and it talks about you shooting a gun, etc. (I am a fan of rap and I know what is usually said in the lyrics but this kid rapping about a gun and shooting people was really stupid. Just rap about making it rain or something that doesn't correspond with something you almost lost your scholorship over), he had to have known that Coach Stoops is very no nonsense when it comes to the guys on their second chance and he did what he had to do and gave him the boot.
I am sad to see this very talented WR leave the program because our WR's aren't exactly the best right now and he would have came in and helped sooner rather than later but for the national image of the program, this had to be done.

Is what he did illegal?
Sure this wasn’t the best thing to do after his previous arrest, but is it illegal? No. While I appreciate that Stoops is a disciplinarian, I don’t really agree with this decision from the facts that I know. I’m sure that as the coach of the team, he knows Jarboe better and in his mind this is the correct path. Looking at his past record with these types of decisions (Dvoracek, Quinn and Bomar) Stoops seems to have a pretty good understanding and fans should support him.

This was a very dangerous situation for Stoops
After already facing gun charges Jarboe had to be on a very tight leash and as I stated previously the rap, while not illegal, showed that there had been no attitude change. Stoops made the right decision by dismissing him before he really did something bad.

We all know that he better get his act together and hope that somebody will offer him a scholly, because we all know he’s not going to make it as a rapper!!!
That was brutal…......just flat terrible!

It's not about being illegal
It’s about common sense and trust. This guy is apparently a huge bonehead and Stoops, Castiglione, Boren et al probably agreed that the potential headache isn’t worth it; especially when you consider that all this happened before he attended his first class. Stoops could not trust him to not be a distraction for the next three or four years. Hell he couldn’t go three months without being a distraction.
