The Carnage Continues – DeMarcus Granger Won’t Play In BCS Title Game

Injuries just keep piling up for Oklahoma as they prepare to face the Florida Gators. Yesterday brought the news that DeMarco Murray won’t be playing due to a leg injury and today we learn that defensive tackle DeMarcus Granger will sit out as well after already undergoing back surgery this week.

As much as I hate to say it, I will. This isn’t looking good for the Sooners!

Ahhhh

Thank god that McCoy and Taylor have played really well this season. It will hurt but that just means someone else needs to step it up.

Granger...

ESPN is calling Granger a backup…. wasn’t he the projected stud of the D-line this season?

by PacificNW-Sooner on Dec 17, 2008 2:52 PM CST reply actions

He doesn't start but plays a lot

Oklahoma rotates their d-linemen to try to keep them fresh and he is one of the first to come in.

DON'T ESPN

everyone on that channel is a TOOL.
1. They never research any thing
2. Every person on that show is biased and have their own agenda
3. They are only there to create controversy
4. Most of what they say on TV is not true.

Honestly, with 3 weeks of training anyone on this forum or practically any other forum could handle any taking head job they have. These guys are there to stir the pot and to sell advertising. A pure clown show evidenced by calling Granger a backup. They know nothing.

I wonder what is next?

I wish Granger a good and speedy recovery and hope you can return next year at full strength.

I know things can be worse, but this is starting to get ridiculous and killing my nerves. It wil be a wonder if the Sooners don’t get blown out this game. A team can only take so much adversity , when the adversity reaches too much the players are emotionally drained and no amount of rah rah or Sooner Magic can help.

by scarab on Dec 17, 2008 3:05 PM CST reply actions

Well

I wouldn’t worry too much yet. I would rather have two guys injured than have my OC thinking about his next job and still hanging around. Remember what happened the last time we played a bowl game against a team with an OC on his way out?

You know again....

I don’t think this is a big deal. Injuries happen. Yes, Granger is a big part of the team, but he’s the #3 DT. It’s not like he is the starting QB or Left Tackle or Middle Linebacker

Oh…and who will be playing MLB again?

Bottom line, I like our offense. That’s what’s going to win this game. Our kicking game sucks, and our Defense will give up yardage, and points….but it’s this Offensive Line that got us here, and it’s what will win the game, not the #3 DT.

Thought Clint Hurdle should be fired before it was cool.

and I hope the remaining healthy players feel that way as well. Can you imagine the chit storm that bUTtholes in Texass will start if the team doesn’t prevail.

They are already cheering

UT will not cheer for the Sooners they want us to lose and they probably don’t care about any of the other Big XII teams in a bowl.

Miami bound...

by boomer1 on Dec 17, 2008 9:54 PM CST up reply actions

You are mistaken...

As much as I hate to say it, i have to root for the sooners during the BCS NCG game. As a UT fan, I know that we were robbed and deserved it more than you(thats another conversation), but I can not blame OU for this mess. The system sucked, period. Not the sooners, not the red raiders not anyone. The system screwed us over.

I want to root for Oklahoma for the primary reason that I can not tolerate to see another SEC fan tell me that the Big 12 doesnt play defense. My buddy at work is a Gator through and through and he thinks that the ‘awesome’ Gator defense can roll over Bardford’s offense, because “Oklahoma has never played anybody with a good defense”. Please show them what the Big 12 offense is about. Show them that a big 12 defense is not too shabby either….we’ll show the Big 10 that when we play our bowl and the vaunted OSU defense…show the SEC world what the Big 12s got…

Hook em horns!

Bring on October 17, 2009 already….

by thebrat on Dec 18, 2008 4:07 PM CST up reply actions

Don't blame the system

Blame yourselves for losing when you did to TT.

and Oklahoma HAS played somebody with a good defense – they played TCU.
TEXAS is the team that hasn’t played anyone with a good defense.

Now you go and show that Big 10 powerhouse who’s boss! By the way, OSU has already been the SEC’s whipping boy for 2 years running. So basically, you guys are just going to sleep with the fat chick. Best of luck with that, but don’t brag too loudly if you are successful.

by skigator93 on Dec 18, 2008 8:41 PM CST up reply actions

So are you admitting...

that OU does not have a good defense!?! The majority of the Big XII teams play the spread offense which stretches defenses and does not allow a true measure of how good the defense is (IMO). I’m not defending that we should be in the MNC that’s just beating a dead horse. I’m defending the Big XII teams defense is better than what it seems. As for TCU’s defense being as good as you say I disagree. No offense to the MWC (TCU’s conference) its not the Big XII and does not match up on many levels so sorry that argument does not hold water. FYI the only team with a good defense (IMO) that OU has played all year was UT (#21 in the country not bad against all spread offenses) and we all know how yall matched up then. You will see a good defense come January 8th and we will see how OU matches up.

Don't be confused

I am not an OU guy and don’t want to portray that an OU fan admitted that OU does not have a good defense.

by skigator93 on Dec 19, 2008 11:09 AM CST up reply actions

Thats my fault...

I should have noticed that you’re a Gator. So I’m assuming then you’re saying OU’s defense isn’t any good as a Gator then. I still stand by my words. Check out the teams with the most passing yards and the teams with the most rushing yards. SEC obviously has more teams that rush the ball rather than pass. The Big XII is the opposite. I think the statistics reflect that. The two conferences are very different and I think it will be interesting to see how the game plays out. One team is more prone to a rushing attack and one team is more prone for a passing attack. I’m going to laugh when Florida’s D is huffing for air due that they will not be able to substitute. See link for stats:

http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/stats

This is only an endorsement for the BIG XII Defenses.

This to me is the key to the game
The two conferences are very different and I think it will be interesting to see how the game plays out. One team is more prone to a rushing attack and one team is more prone for a passing attack.

I totally agree and think this is the key to the game. The Big 12 has wide open offenses. The goal of the defenses is not to shut them out…or even down….that would be silly. Now Florida has good defensive stats, and their fans, think that they will shut down OU’s offense. Not going to happen. OU’s line is great, and the key to their success this year. Florida fans think, that OU hasn’t seen a D as good as theirs. Well, here’s some news: Florida’s D hasn’t seen an offense as good as Oklahoma and Slingin’ Sammy Bradford.

In fact this is the match up that will decide the game. Not Florida’s offense against OU’s D…as Florida will score, and I assume a fair amount. It’s can Florida do what no other team did and shut down Oklahoma’s offense? (and for the record, Texas didn’t stop OU…but they slowed them down enough, and kept scoring in the 4th quarter…..Texas won on offense, though Texas had by FAR the best defensive line OU played against this year)

(as for TCU..they are all they are advertised to be and a very legit quality defensive unit. I’ve watched a lot of MWC football as I live in Denver, and got my 2nd degree from Col. St. and TCU changed the pace of the games they played, and BYU and Utah are both very good offensive teams as is Air Force and TCU man handled the Falcons this year)

Thought Clint Hurdle should be fired before it was cool.

Don't count on us huffing for air

We get stronger as the game goes on – we don’t wear down.
Our corners can cover, our line can pressure , our linebackers can tackle and our safeties can lower the boom.

skigator93, i know you think that OU has not seen a good defense as good as yours(in stats atleast), but has Florida seen an offense like OU’s?

I’m going to stay away from the Big 12 plays no defense debate until the end of the bowl season..

As per your TT comment, you just answered it for me. We were hurt by the system, because we lost to TT so how is it fair that OU doesn’t get penalized for losing to us?

by thebrat on Dec 21, 2008 11:14 AM CST up reply actions

Again, you are blaming the wrong entity

Who is “the system” that you so decry? The only system you should be complaining to is the Big 12. Your conference makes all its own tie-breaker rules. Your coaches and ADs approved tht system. So go cry to them.

You do realize that if you were in the SEC, then you would have played in the conference championship game based on the SEC version of the tie-breakers? Of course you would have also gone 8-4 in the regular season and it wouldn’t have mattered anyway…..

Good luck against Ohio State. I think the OU fans can do without your support, which we all know is probably some backhanded attempt at hoping OU wins a close game and you can finagle your way into a split national championship.

by skigator93 on Dec 21, 2008 9:43 PM CST up reply actions

I agree...

The system is the Big 12 and the tiebreaker rules should be changed. I have never said anything contrary to that.

As to our supposed record if we were in the SEC, i don’t really care what you have to say. All I care about is that the Big 12 represents itself well in all its bowl games, because I am tired of hearing how the SEC is the greatest conference in football…we’ll see come the end of the bowl season.

I am not making a backhanded attempt at hoping OU wins a close game or anything like that, all I care about is to prove to the CFB world that the Big 12 can hang with the ‘best’ conferences in the country and shut up SEC fan boys like you. I am willing to swallow my rivalry with OU, if that means shutting up SEC fanboys like Gary Danielson and the like….

Lets just wait and see. If, for some reason, we(the Big 12) implode in the bowl season then I will wholeheartedly agree with you, but as of now, i’m not going to debate anything, until its settled on the field.

Why?

OU is a great team and ranked #1 in the nation. Losing to that type of team is acceptable. Complaining and whining about your lot and then losing to everyone’s favorite whipping boy is quite another matter….

Why are there so many Texas fans on here anyway? I’m just here to get the OU faithful’s perspective on our upcoming game. So far, I’ve encountered way too many bitter Texas fans.

by skigator93 on Dec 22, 2008 10:49 PM CST up reply actions

Keep your friends close...

and your enemies closer. If you think that the OU and Florida game does not have ramifications for Texas then you’re oblivious. First of all that was not me whining before it was the other poster. I’ve said many times before that arguing who should be in the MNC is beating a dead horse. That decision has been settled and there is no point crying over spilt milk. Second I’m not bitter and very pleased with the outcome for UT, whose preseason rank was third in the Big XII South. I think Texas accomplished more with less than any other team in the country. As for the previous comment I made I regret implying that OU is not a good team because that is furthest thing from the truth and it was more of me poking fun at OU’s 1 and 5 bowl record in the last six years. As for any of your other comments, I’ll take the high road and bow out of your ridiculous and nonfactual based arguments.

After the barrage of filthy and hateful comments we took here from Texas fans at the beginning of the month we are extremely gun shy of any comments from Texas fans.

Agreed..

I know that what some Texas fans do on this board, represents us in a very bad light.

OU and its fans do not deserve the hate that some fans are spewing. Its the system that screwed us over and we should be yelling at them not you.

I hope that you will acknowledge that there are some decent Texas fans that exist in this world as well.

And to be honest I don’t mind the difference of opinions and even welcome it. That is why you and a few others are welcomed here. It provides good solid conversations about a sport that we all love.

I have banned more people and delete more posts in the last four weeks than i had the previous three years combined on this site. That is why (as I mentioned earlier) we are a bit gun shy right now.

Sounds a little like whining to me.

I really don’t have any problem with Texas – all Gators are thankful for your 4th down conversion in the 1996 Big 12 Title game to take out Nebraska for us and pave the way to our first ever national title.

by skigator93 on Dec 23, 2008 11:21 AM CST up reply actions

read the comment again...

Thats why I put “thats another conversation” in there. My intent in that post was to show my support for the Big 12, even if that meant I would have to support OU. OU fans do not need any hate/trash talk from us because of what happened in the BCS/Big 12 tiebreaker rules.

I agree with CCmachine, that the hate some Texas fans show on this blog is unwarranted and should not be directed at OU or their fans. Rather its the system that deserves it.

If I were indeed whining, I would not be supporting OU in the first place, so I guess that point is moot.

No its more like...

we won’t root for OU. Besides yall I hope all the other Big XII schools win in blow outs during their bowl games. I’m sure that feeling is reciprocated. The absolute distaste for one another is what makes this rivalry so great. IMO it is the #1 rivalry in the nation hands down, but I’m bias.

Health

I’m sorry to hear about the injuries – seriously. I am one of those guys that wants to beat an opponent at its best. I don’t want to hear “If only so-and-so were healthy….”

I think some of you make a good point above regarding a defensive loss. It probably doesn’t matter because it’s your offense that got you here. The only way it could really hurt is because of depth. We tend to wear down opponents and bring in a fresh Moody in the 4th quarter (why he never plays earlier, I have no idea, as I believe he is the best RB to wear the orange and blue in years). You don’t want to have tired lineman when Moody comes calling. Your offense/Bradford will have to put up some points for you.

Do we really have to wait 3 more weeks?!!?
