Capel Lands Another Big Name Recruit

Oak Hill Academy’s (Wilson, Va.) Keith “Tiny” Gallon has decided to join point guard Tommy Mason-Griffin (ranked No. 24 by Scout.com), forward Andrew Fitzgerald (ranked No. 63 by ESPN), wing Steven Pledger (ranked No. 92 by ESPN) and forward Kyle Hardrick (four-star recruit by Scout.com) as an Oklahoma Sooner basketball player. Gallon is a 6-9, 300 pound center who is averaging 18.8 points and 11.1 rebounds this season.

Gallon, who goes by the nickname “Tiny”, is ranked No. 21 nationally by ESPN, No. 31 by Rivals.com and No. 37 by Scout.com. ESPN ranks him No. 3 among centers while Rivals.com and Scout.com rate him No. 5.

"This is a great day for our program, to have Tiny officially become a Sooner," said Jeff Capel, "I think Tiny is one of the elite players in this class, definitely one of the elite post players in this class. He's a really big kid, but a really skilled kid. He can score it, can pass it, can shoot the ball well. He's got long arms and he moves really well. We're excited about him.

This completes our class and we got all the guys we wanted at every position."

To me this is the best pickup of the recruiting class because it gives Oklahoma a big physical body inside. OU has youth and depth at the guard and forward positions but it was inside that bothered me. We’ve enjoyed watching Blake Griffin last year and this year but his pending departure to the NBA at season’s end leaves a huge void in the paint. Gallon will fill that void as another athletic big man.

Stocking the cupboard

I have to say that I was not completely sold on Capel when he was hired, but he obviously is doing the right things and getting the talent on board. He also seems to be able to coach (obviously) and I hope that he sticks around. Texas keeps adding stellar recruits and Barnes seems to be pretty savvy, so the next couple years should add to the RRS rivalry in hoops.

In general, it seems like Joe Castiglione seems to be making a whole bunch of right moves when it comes to hiring and facilities.
